Tesla has identified four states Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico and Texas as the competitors for the plant. One of the four is expected to be chosen for the initial ground breaking, which Musk said Wednesday will take place next month. There most likely will be another ground breaking to follow not long after the first.
All four states are still in the running, because of their eagerness and capability, Simon Sproule, Teslas vice president of communications and marketing, said Thursday. He declined to say which state or states are in the lead, nor would he give a date when a selection will be announced.
On Wednesday, Musk said Tesla is also talking with California officials, who have pushed to get their state on Teslas radar. California did not make Teslas original list because of its extensive environmental permit requirements, and it is not likely to be the first one selected because of the companys need to move quickly.

I think they intend to become a battery company — and maybe stop selling cars altogether.
If California werent so big.. it would have already cancelled its economy out completely...
given its size it may take a few more..... months
Maybe Ford plans on becoming a Motor company and stop selling cars altogether.
After all it is the Ford Motor Company.
It’s a shame, because with a comprehensive rollback of business killing laws — it could be almost the strongest economy in the world.
Or they could lease some of Tesla’s patents and make battery powered Fusions and Fiestas.
CA is on an unsustanable trajectory and someday they will not have enough money to fund all their progressive utopian infrastructure,
Tesla is no more going to build this massive battery factory than all of those .5 million dollar battery swap stations they were propagandizing about a couple of years ago.
In my opinion, this battery factory is a snow job. After the biding war, they’ll announce that they’re going to “phase it”, which means that they’ll build a tiny battery factory to meet their own needs, and when there’s no further market for additional batteries the other “phases” will never get built.
And from today:

Its the experiment....to see how to best.....destroy a vibrant economy and turn a state into a third world hellhole
if it works well in California...the die is cast
How many tax dollars are they asking for?
Go out there and try to raise money to go into any business venture in California and then get back to us.
No sane person or group will put up any capital for a business venture in Cali.
This is not even a good joke, it is just plain stupid to expect us to buy into this crap.
Maybe they plan on not making batteries or cars, but stand in the Gurberment’s perpetually gravy train line.
90% chance its NV.
1) The largest reserves of lithium is in NV.
2) Harry Reid
3) BigEars needs NV in 2016
