(CNN) -- Michael and Jacob, your reign has ended.

In 2013, for the first time since 1960, a new name unseated Michael or Jacob as the most popular for newborn boys. That's according to the Social Security Administration, which releases the list of most popular baby names each year.

That's nonsense. Most parents want their baby to have the same name as someone else's. Otherwise, there would never have been more than one "Nevaeh."

If it’s Jose (sorry, no accents here!) that’s a good thing. St. Joseph is the patron saint of many things, ranging from the universal Church to widows and orphans to a good death.

On the other hand, the latest rapper or movie star is not a good thing.

My name isn’t on the list from either 1900 or today. And I find that interesting, because it seems there are a lot of guys around my age with the same first name as me (my name is Scot, by the way).

I’ve gotten to the point where I rarely bother to correct anyone anymore if they spell my name with two t’s. But it blows my mind that a few members of my family make that error!
