I was brought up on an incredibly healthy diet: no sugar till I was one, breastfed for over a year, organic homegrown vegetables, raw milk, no MSG, no additives, no aspartame. My mother used homeopathy, aromatherapy, osteopathy, we took daily supplements of vitamin C, echinacea, cod liver oil.
I had an outdoor lifestyle; I grew up next to a farm, walked everywhere, did sports and danced twice a week, drank plenty of water. I wasn’t even allowed pop; even my fresh juice was watered down to protect my teeth, and I would’ve killed for white, shop-bought bread in my lunch box once in a while and biscuits instead of fruit like all the other kids.
We only ate (organic local) meat maybe once or twice a week and my mother and father cooked everything from scratch – I have yet to taste a Findus crispy pancake and oven chips were reserved for those nights when mum and dad had friends over and we got a “treat.”
As healthy as my lifestyle seemed, I contracted measles, mumps, rubella, a type of viral meningitis, scarlatina, whooping cough, yearly tonsillitis, and chickenpox, some of which are vaccine preventable. In my twenties I got precancerous HPV and spent 6 months of my life wondering how I was going to tell my two children under the age of 7 that mummy might have cancer before it was safely removed.
So having the “natural immunity sterilised out of us” just doesn’t cut it for me. How could I, with my idyllic childhood and my amazing health food, get so freaking ill all the time?

I find the last paragraph sad since polio is occurring again.

My friend who got polio from the vaccine in the late 50’s had the vaccine just prior to Christmas break. His parents got to spend Christmas day with him in an iron lung. His doctor was perplexed though as he’d had the vaccine and it wasn’t polio season (usually the summer) so he called the CDC. CDC official drove there, examined him and pronounced his paralysis as a ‘side effect’ of the vaccine. And cautioned the MD that it couldn’t possibly BE polio since he’d received the vaccine. There was a great deal of denial about this particular side effect early on. As a result, my friend has never trusted any vaccines at all. I’m not entirely sure I blame him. He may be a poor candidate for live culture vaccines in general.

I turned down flu shots before my first tour and had to explain why to the CO of the battalion why I wouldn’t take them. We get overseas, and lo and behold, my whole section is laid up except me. It sucked being the only healthy guy to do any work.
There are two sides to every story, and when the government tells me I must do something, I tend to head the opposite way.. I’m an extremely lousy follower.

I suffered from severe tonsillitis for many years as a child and a teenager in the 70’s when there was a shift by many doctors (GP’s) at the time, from removing infected tonsils to just treating the infection with antibiotics and treating the symptoms with drugs like Codeine. But I was constantly sick, my immune system was so compromised that I caught just about every bug that came around.
The worst was in 1978 when I had several colds, one after another, and then severe strep infections one after another, and then caught the Russian Flu that laid me in bed for over a week and was so sick that for a time I was actually hoping for death, followed by the so called “walking pneumonia” meaning one day I was walking, the next I was bedridden the next I was back up walking, the next bedridden again – my mother had it too and for her it developed into pleurisy and bacterial pneumonia. My throat was so constantly sore and my tonsils so inflamed that I couldn’t and didn’t want to eat and I lost a lot of weight, becoming painfully and unhealthily thin, yet our family GP kept telling my parents that tonsillectomies were out of “fashion” and not necessary. FWIW, this GP was also not in favor of vaccinations.
While there is no vaccination for tonsillitis, our GP failed to recognize how very serious my condition was becoming.
The week was graduating from HS, I caught yet another “cold” and tonsillitis so bad that not only could I not swallow nor I could I eat but this time I could barely breathe and I had a very high fever that jut wouldn’t go away. I barely made it to my graduation and went straight to bed afterwards.
My parents finally took me to an ENT and when he examined me, the first words out of his mouth were “Oh my God!” My tonsils were so badly infected and evidently so chronically infected over such a long period of time, he told my parents that he was amazed that I hadn’t gone “septic” (I might have had quinsy, I don’t remember) all I know was he told my parents that getting them out was an emergency surgery situation and that I could actually die if this remained untreated, i.e. had my infected tonsils removed. I was admitted to the hospital the very next morning and I had them taken out two days later and it was the best thing that ever happened. A week of recovery, but then afterward, I slowly regained my strength and my immune system and I stopped getting sick all the time.
I’ve learned quite a bit tonight about bad polio vaccines.

I have to wonder if the recent outbreaks of disease aren’t so much the unvaxed as they are faulty vaccines that don’t contain any active ingredients. Vaccines and/or their constituent components are all manufactured in China and India. Moreover our own FDA has stated (after the Chinese Heparin death debacle a few years ago) that they have neither the resources nor is it their job to inspect every batch. Or in fact any batches. I’m pretty sure the south Asian countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan don’t have anything even remotely resembling our FDA either. They have to take it on faith that the vaccines they import from China are really the real deal.

The manufacturers are indemnified from any damages for vaccine issues as well. So there isn’t any proof that any of these vaccines actually contained any ‘mojo’. Or even if they contained anything truly dangerous. You have no real idea what’s in that little vial anymore. When they were made here in the US you could feel safe. Now you have no clue. And if you get some side effect or the disease itself the blame will be put on the unvaxed. Moreover you won’t have anyone to sue. The heparin cases could sue. If you’re hurt by a vaccine you have to wait it out for decades in ‘vaccine court’. And still probably end up with nothing.
The Chinese have been caught red handed (pun intended) putting lead in/on our kids toys. Why wouldn’t they stoop to putting it in their vaccines?
It’s something no one really wants to talk about except to vent about the unvaxed. 5% unvaxed kids scare me a whole helluva lot less than the fact that all the vaccines currently being made in China and India or from ingredients made there. That’s way more scary...
It was not due to anti-vaccine locally, but to a wrinkle in the protocol for adults. I always get my tetanus on time because I work with dogs and horses. Adults get combination pertussis-diphtheria-tetanus shot, but the tetanus is a 10-year and the pertussis only lasts 4-5 in some cases.
Fortunately it's not life threatening in adults, and I didn't pass it on to any of my coworkers' kids.

Flu shots are not the same as the disease vaccines we are talking about because flu is a different disease, actually many iterations of a virus.
I personally never get a flu shot, nor have I gotten the flu, but wouldn’t advise not to.
Don’t conflate flu shots with vaccines against pox, measles, polio etc...
