The victim is probably toast for having an unregistered weapon and no license to have it.

What he should have done is flee when his task was completed.

Yep, exactly. The worst thing Bernard Goetz ever did was turn himself in. A Bronx jury eventually found a $43 MILLION dollar judgement against him. Get mugged twice, with the city doing the biggest mugging.

Funny thing is, there’s no real way to know how many stories there are in which somebody does just that i.e. shoots the two perps and drives away, or shoots some burglar in his house and dumps the body at 2 AM the following morning or whatever...

He’s toast because he committed a double murder. Regardless of his weapons registration state... You are allowed to defend yourself. You are not allowed to chase someone down after they are no longer threatening you and kill them.

The punks may have gotten what they deserved but there is no grey area based on the article that he committed double homocide.

He might be found to have or thought he has some sort of diplomatic immunity. Maybe from the UN or even Interpol? The driver, armed and carrying concealed? In the Bronx? Driver for whom? All is very vague.

"The unidentified Mercedes driver was taken into custody and has been uncooperative, cops sources said."
