A new patent filed from 2012 by Microsoft has proven that the software company is hard at work on its own smart watch device. It appears Microsoft doesn't want to play second fiddle this time around. (Photo : United States Patent and Trademark Office)

Frankly,
I gave up watches decades ago. In between, if I wanted to know the time, I look at my phone. Have no need for body wear devices - I hate my glasses and if my eyes weren’t getting better each time as I age, I’d get that whatever laser stuff done.
The only add-on now I tolerate is a gun and holster. This smart watch? Not for me at all. Google glasses? Hell no.

It will warn you when your BP gets too high from seeing the BSOD on your computer.

Well that didn't take long.

I don’t see it either. Like you I quit wearing a watch years ago and have seen nothing compelling in these smart watches to make me go back. One of the complaints of the smart phone is small screen size, hard to see. I don’t see this improving with a watch with a smaller yet screen.

Yeah, and give it six months until it starts nagging you about installing SP1.

Reminds me of the Sun Microsystems film clip at COMDEX with a faux Jacques Cousteau narrating his adventures into the ocean depths, using his new high technology Microsoft depth gauge and timepiece, .....when SUDDENLY DISASTER STRIKES!!!!
the next scene is the wet-suited diver descending face up into unconsciously into the deep kelp....

The heart rate monitor part would be nice but changing bands? My watchband is gold, it goes with everything.

Are you suggesting the smartwatch has more “support” than the smartbra?

I got an iPad because I couldn’t see the screen on my phone well enough. I have never worn a watch. This definitely isn’t for me. lol

I bought a really cool watch about 3 months ago off of eBay. I really thought it’d be nice to start wearing a watch again.
I haven’t worn that watch in two months. With a smartphone, there just isn’t any reason to do so.

Yes, but will it be worth more than you paid for it in 20 years? More importantly, will it still work?

I bought a Geneva at the PX in RVN. When it stopped working I threw it away! DOH! I didn’t realize what I had done until years later. I bought my 2 tone Sub for $3750.00, full pop, at a jewelry store in Honolulu 25 years ago. People say they don’t keep good time but mine is accurate to within a couple of seconds a month.

My Milgauss is selling about the same. Now if I could find a buyer. I never wear the thing.
To: Gaffer
I wear a watch, and don’t carry a phone.
