On television at least, it looks as if the beat doesnt go on. The phenomenon of music-based television shows, which have dominated the ratings for more than a decade, seems by nearly every measure to be over or in steep decline.
They flooded the market, said Simon Cowell, perhaps the individual most responsible for turning amateur singers into superstars, with his roles on American Idol, The X Factor and Americas Got Talent. There have just been a ton of shows, and something has simply gone awry.

That was the greatest game show of all time.
“Time for Gene Gene the dancing machine!”

May the so-called ‘reality’ shows disappear, too.
But, the channels are having a terrible time finding new shows that make it each year.
Last year, some 29 programs got cancelled, many after broadcasting only a few episodes, because few watched.
This year, some 38 programs bit the dust. A couple finished their run and one moved to another channel.
From some of the descriptions of programs already picked up for next year, several seem to be destined for failure.
Networks and channels are having a difficult time programming their channels.
No kidding, just look at CNN.
Yeah, that talking poodle Nicki Mina was more than I could take.
Apparently they did a lot of stuff on The Gong Show that didn’t get shown on TV. (And for good reason)
> Its all gay now.
The singing competitions have become a gay promo tool by overloading the contestant finals with a higher ratio of gay contestants the past few years. I think it was last year that X Factor was flooded with more than a 50% ratio (at least) of gay finalists, so many that the odds were that it had to be rigged. And they wonder why their ratings are falling. Seriously?!
The NFL is about to learn the same lesson.
“When was the last time you saw a western on scheduled network prime time TV?
That would be 1993, “The Adventures Of Briscoe County Jr.”
It was the second best show on TV, next to the space Western “Firefly”.
The fools in charge cancelled them too soon, but Joss Whedon got his payback with the success of “Avengers”.
I planning on some new Serenity adventures on the screen when “Castle” is over and Nathan Fillon is free to do other things.
Yeah, I'll bet. The censors were always bleeping Jaye P. Morgan's foul language, so I suspect it got a lot worse from there. The ultimate '70s party combo - cocaine and vodka - was very much present. It made the Match Game set look all sober and serious... almost.
Idol sucks cause it is fixed.
The NFL is about to learn the same lesson.
Don’t worry. The NFL, NBA, and MLB will all be good when they start punishing people of color for the racist things they say about whites, even if they are private conversations that are illegally recorded.
It’s easier to type something with a not-so-straight face than say it.
Simon sez “They flooded the market.” He means “we.”
Justified is as close as you’ll come to a western. However, it has cars and shot in eastern Kentucky. But looks and feels like a wester.
I think the Sutherlands have a western movie coming out this year.
I luvs me some westerns.
I can only imagine how the straight players feel about getting in the same shower with a gay player that may be scoping your butt or penis then fantasize about it later..or wonder why he likes to tackle with his head in your crotcch or butt...the homos are just trying to kill competitive sports to sissify men. It’s a two-fer they get what they want; the gubmint gets what it wants - emasculated men that won’t fight back against them and will lay down and take it like sheep. The gays get more new gay convers from sports and the Boy Scouts...
My wife loves The Voice. I find it to be nauseatingly fake and the singers are generic talents, which explains why they haven’t managed to land a single one a real career.
My son moved into an apartment this year. He bought a 50 inch TV a couple of years ago. I asked him yesterday why he didn’t at least hook up to an antenna and get free local TV. He says why. He watches Netflix, Hulu, and his sister’s HBO Go.
It’s like letting guys in the female locker room, and telling the ladies they are “bigots” for having a problem with it!
Yeah, I know what you mean. I read a Hollywood bio, and it mentions some now unbelievable number of hours of the three networks broadcast week were filled with Westerns in the late 1950s/early 1960s.
The cooking "reality" shows.
I stopped watching American Idol the year after David Cook won. He was such an amazing talent but AI squandered it by controlling him and the direction he wanted to go. Mainly, I stopped watching because of Ellen Degenerate. I refuse to watch her.
