Theres nothing wrong with shouting, Not that theres anything wrong with that.
Thats the argument from a lawyer for a former Seinfeld writer who is asking a judge to dismiss the real-life Kramers $1 million defamation lawsuit against the scribe.
Kenny Kramer, 70, sued writer Fred Stoller and Skyhorse Publishing last December for saying in a book that the guides on Kramers Manhattan tour buses drive through Greenwich Village pointing out gay people and yelling a famous line from the show: Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Stoller's lawyer, David Pierce, insisted in Manhattan Supreme Court Wednesday that the case should be tossed because the line is ironic.
Besides, he contended, nobody on the street can claim to be insulted because the windows remain closed on Kramers air conditioned buses and the guides cant be heard on the street.
But Kramers lawyer, Fred Lichtmacher, shot back: Its not ironic. Its insulting to a lot of people.
Lichtmacher admitted that hes seen only one episode of Seinfeld in his life.
I'm glad Kramers not here. Hed be upset and [show co-creator] Larry David would be very very upset.
Lichtmacher said the problem with the seven vicious pages that Stoller wrote in his memoir, Maybe Well Have You Back, about Kramer is that they are just not true. He said Kramers buses never go to Greenwich Village. In fact, he said, they never get south of 42nd St.
However, he argued, Kramer's business could be hurt if the book creates the impression in peoples minds that hes a gay basher.
Joey DelValle/APThe line Not that theres anything wrong with that, is from a famous episode of the legendary sitcom.
What hes accused of is a disgusting, hateful thing, Lichtmacher said. This thing (the bus company) has his name all over it. This is a situation that can destroy this mans business because no body wants to get on his bus if his reputation is as a gay basher.
Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Barbara Jaffe said she would rule on the motion to dismiss the case in coming weeks.
In a famous episode of the hit sitcom, characters Jerry and George, who are straight, are mistaken as gay.
When the characters deny that they are romantically involved, they quickly add, Not that theres anything wrong with that.
That’ll be the day.
Don’t people have more mportant things to worry about?
... so the Judge has to chose between 2 liberals: The (permanently) Offended vs. the (truly) Upset?
Film at 11.
Serenity now!
Don't mess with Ping, his cousin is a shawk!
“...The (permanently) Offended vs. the (truly) Upset?..”
Don’t forget the “Professionally-Offended”. They make a LIVING being offended... or off others being offended.
Didn’t Kenny do all this, like, 20 years ago, when it first went down? Dude, what’s your hurry?
Say, did I tell you about the time I went to Lorenzo’s and ran into the Van Buren Boys?
Women: What's ironic?
Elaine: This, that we've come all this way, we have made all this progress, but you know we've lost the little things, the niceties.
Woman: No, I mean what does 'ironic' mean?
Elaine: Oh...
I wonder if they had to pay him years ago before they made $1 billion+ off of people including him?
Neither does Ping. If you live on south side of 42nd Street, he will not deliver your fish because street itself is boundary.
"If we deliver to you, then what? Wall Street, Mexico, 34th Street?"
Besides, he contended, nobody on the street can claim to be insulted because the windows remain closed on Kramers air conditioned buses and the guides cant be heard on the street. But Kramers lawyer, Fred Lichtmacher, shot back: Its not ironic. Its insulting to a lot of people.
This is why I hate lawyers.
Shouldn’t the real Kramer be rich from his Kramerica ventures by now?
I have to admit, I’ve never watched it either.
I’m not so sure after the cook your own pizza scheme fell through.
...Like queers being drafted to the NFL and making a spectacle of themselves?
