Glenn Greenwald: how the NSA tampers with US-made internet routers
The Guardian ^ | 05/12/2014 | Glenn Greenwald

The NSA has been covertly implanting interception tools in US servers heading overseas – even though the US government has warned against using Chinese technology for the same reasons, says Glenn Greenwald, in an extract from his new book about the Snowden affair, No Place to Hide

For years, the US government loudly warned the world that Chinese routers and other internet devices pose a "threat" because they are built with backdoor surveillance functionality that gives the Chinese government the ability to spy on anyone using them. Will this psychotic secret surveillance security state mentality ever end? Are we really protected by this endless stream of garbage we are treated to?

If you have robust military, combined with an assured energetic response, I seriously doubt we need this to defend our nation. However, governments find it very powerful to stop opposition to their governments.

The US govt is destroying the computer/server/router export business singlehandedly.

They intercepted individual routers and altered them, who were they being shipped to, and how times did this happen?

How in the world did the drones at Bluffdale know I was going to the Apple Store to purchase a router?

Great. US built routers have BOTH NSA spyware added, and intrinsic PLA spyware from the Chinese manufactured chips.

Heck, it would be easier just to replace the logic board with another that is already to go.

When somebody gets shot, then maybe they will learn.

i think it's easier to simply plug in the power cord and a USB or Ethernet cable then flash the prom, it'd take more time opening and re closing the cardboard it's packed in...

but six of one, half dozen of another

They’re real bad about shutting down internet connections, blocking certain posts, messing with personal documents, freezing screens and killing loyal US citizen’s computers but other than that they’re nice guys. Howdy, dude in the black suit on the other side of the screen!
