Businessman Kills Rival for ‘Nice Time’ With Second Wife

GOKWE businessman Cleopas Mugwira is languishing in remand prison for allegedly killing a rival suitor he caught red-handed having a “nice time” with his second wife in a vehicle.

Mugwira yesterday appeared before Gokwe resident magistrate Shepherd Mjanja facing a murder charge.

He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to May 27.

The magistrate advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.

Prosecutor Tinei Tirigo told the court that on Thursday last week, Mugwira went to Mapfungautsi residential stands in the town and on arrival found his second wife Gladys Benson having a “nice time” with a commuter omnibus driver whose name was not mentioned in court papers.

Mugwira became angry and confronted the pair.

He allegedly started assaulting the man with open palms and clenched fists all over the head.

The driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to Gokwe District Hospital for treatment where he was admitted.

However, his condition deteriorated and he was transferred to Gweru General Hospital where he died last Saturday of the injuries sustained from the alleged assault by Mugwira.

A report was made to the police leading to Mugwira’s arrest and a murder charge against him.

I have a feeling “second wife” may not mean what you think it does here. I worked with a woman from Africa who told me all husbands have a “second wife”. One at home they are married to and have children with, and one on the side they don’t live with.

What is “having a nice time” a euphemism for?

.
Did the clenched fist contain a 12” blade or a hammer perhaps?
