“So much for telling people that they can always get a job flippin’ burgers...”

Since they do such a fine job at it and complain about the pay. I would just like for them to get one order correct the first time.

As a business owner I do it all. I don't have anyone to complain to about my pay. If the toilets need cleaning and the trash hasn't been taken out guess who does it? And I don't mind. I like to work and to keep busy. The problem is so many other people don't like to work, they show up for a paycheck. I'm lucky to have people who are more like me. They want to do a good job.

A good manager would tell workers to put up their damn cell phones and pay attention. And to keep the place clean when they aren't filling orders. But many of the managers are as bad as the workers.

BTW, this isn't just a problem at McDonalds. Our Home Depot must lose their butts on plants. No one ever waters the poor things. The place is a mess while ‘workers’ stand around talking to one another. Makes me crazy (crazier). I want to go find a water hose and water the plants...such a waste!

You should hear the screeching when I suggest farm labor as a better paying alternative. The “food services technicians” are above making 10 to 15 dollars per hour for actual work.

So much for putting loose change into the box to benefit the Ronald McDonald House.

You know that every time someone places an order on one of these there will probably be a screen asking if the customer would like to donate.

why is a cashier even needed? just cue in what you want and any special orders and go get in line sit down with your number/receipt in hand.
.
Might get better service and can only blame yourself for improper order OR the employees in the back who put it together.

Amen.

.

Until we get to the food replicators like on Star Trek 3D printed food...

I don’t mind if people make more money....its just that we’re working so hard in taking humans out of every job I have to ask why would one push harder to that goal?.....

We’ve had these in Wawa for many years now. I love them. You have all the options and toppings right in front of you. When you complete the order you get a slip you bring to the checkout to pay while you wait for the sandwich. It would be nice if they also had a way to pay right on the machine.

. . . and for anonymity, people will start buying “cash cards”.

. . which will probably end up requiring ID and having a camera watch you. . .

LOL, they will require ID. But while we take for granted that we need ID for many everyday purposes, certain people fight the idea of needing an ID to vote.

a filthy environment and tables that are not cleaned

My experience has been just the opposite. McDonalds has always had the highest standards of cleanliness.

Maybe it's different in other areas?

It actually makes sense....for far more complicated problems.

The answer is ‘c’.

LOL. Go ahead and make the minimum wage $50 per hour. The automation of these near thoughtless tasks has been happening for years. Take EZPass for tolls. It makes for faster trips and eliminates COST(Toll Takers and all the benefits they require). An insane entry level wage will accelerate the process in the fast food industry. Unemployment levels for the unskilled workerer will soar.

It is laughable to think that in 1991 I stepped on an elevator in a Boston hotel and an old man in the proverbial monkey suit sat on a stool to press the button for the floor I wanted.

The deli at Fry’s Market (Kroger) has a kiosk which allows you to order your deli meats and go about your shopping. Just stop by 15 minutes later and it’s ready for you. Beats standing in line waiting your turn to tell the guy you want three pounds of Black Forest Ham, thin sliced.

Is it still sliced by humans or is the entire process robotic?

“and one benefit is that they get much more vacation than the US.”

Yes, and it is FORCED. In other words, the government mandate for more vacation time actually makes everyone take that time. They are not allowed to chose to be more productive.

Their government mandate of all of those “benefits” has led to an average “middle class lifestyle” that rivals the US lifestyle of welfare recipients. If you are an average working American family, your house is likely 2x bigger than the average Europeans. You have 2x the number of cars and your cars are bigger. You have more TV’s. You have better climate control, namely you actually HAVE airconditioning in your home. Your house sits on bigger lots...and on and on and on.

When you hamper productivity, you hamper lifestyle. Yet, their cost of living is higher......

Yay, for Democratic Socialism....

No, you take your order printout to the cashier and pay that person. They give you a receipt to present to the person behind the food counter to get your food.

When these machines are installed, the average “per customer” spend increases dramatically. When people use Plastic instead of Cash, they are less cognizant of the actual amount they are spending.
