Are you a cat owner? Are you sure about that? Who caters to her resident feline's every need? Who dotes upon her demanding little dictator? Who can be put in her place with just one look of disdain from the kitty in the corner?

If any of the following scenarios sound familiar, the "owner" status in your home may have shifted without your even realizing it.

My second cat, Missy (aka Princess) decided she deserved my spot on the family room/TV couch. I lost my original spot too, but that's another story best left alone.
I procrastinated for a long time until I realized what the furball was doing.
So I started removing her when I wanted my spot, her protestations notwithstanding. She now inhabits the footrest of my recliner, but when she hears me operate the down button, she just jumps down. When I return, she hops back up.

Who decided cats can't be trained?

If you have one or more large dogs around the house, declawing a cats a bad idea. She needs the claws to keep the dogs in line.

I do not bother him when he is in the litter box.

Wise choice.

I like cats, my parents didn’t care for them. They let me keep ths cat. I named her Kaeki, Hawaiian for baby. She was an outdoor cat, going in or out as she pleased. She used to climb up the old California oak, across the garage to my bedroom window and cry to be let in to sleep on my bed with me. I haven’t had a cat since.

I think so. :)

But I have had to pick him up from time to time when he is eating. He makes a little "meow" and that is it.

My wife is guilty of all six of these (but of course I am not!).

We have a cat who spends most of his day outside, very close to our house but outside. But he’s in as soon as it starts getting dark and wants in his basement with his cat box and I’m pretty sure he saves all his business for for the cat box because it needs regular daily cleaning. We try to convince him to go outside but he’s not having it.

I slice a thin piece of extra-sharp cheddar for a pill wrap OR bathe the pill in unsalted butter. Those pills go down, no problem!

This is just so.... me.

I don’t have a cat, but I occassionally “baby sit” for a friend when she goes on vacation. Later this year, they’re going out of the country, so I’ll get to have “little fuzzy butt” for about a month.

The very first night she spent at home with me, we hung out watching tv together, with her sitting between my legs. I was trying to figure out who to get her off my chair so I could get up to go to bed, and I just said, “OK, time for bed,” and she got up and ran into my bedroom (remember, this was the first time she had ever stayed with me!) I get into the bedroom and she’s sitting in the center of the bed, just waiting for me to get in!

I got into bed, pulled the covers up, and she got up on my chest so I could pet her for a few minutes, and when she had enough, she curled up between my legs and went to sleep.

That first night, at about 4:45am, she woke me up by bumping my chin with her head. So I thought she wanted food, and this wasn’t going to work. So I shambled into the kitchen, and her food and water bowls were full. I went back into my room and she was sitting in the middle of my bed again waiting for me to get in, so I could pet her some more. A few minutes of petting later, she curled up between my knees again, and was back asleep.

She had me trained that very first night!

I’ve got a framed photo of her on my fireplace mantle, and she’s the wallpaper on my phone.

I’m hopeless.

Mark
