A rural northwest Iowa man who suffers from Parkinson’s disease has filed a federal lawsuit claiming that he was brutally pummeled by a SWAT team after a relative made false harassment allegations against him
Instead of speaking with the retaliatory relative, the sheriff’s department in Pottawattamie County, Iowa (pop. 92,913) sent close to a dozen members of its SWAT team to the home of John Hytrek.
Hytrek, 52, was working on a tractor in his driveway when the heavily armed policemen jumped out of a van.
He had previously warned the relative, who sports a prior conviction for uttering false statements, to leave his property.
According to the lawsuit, the horde of cops tackled the 52-year-old Parkinson’s sufferer. His face slammed on a tire machine. The police officers punched him in the head at least five times.
“I did not resist them, nothing,” Hytrek told the station. “They could’ve came up to me and asked me what was going on, and they didn’t.”
The lawsuit also alleges that the SWAT team positioned a sniper across the street to monitor the situation in case the quinquagenarian man with a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system tried anything squirrely.
In a deposition for case, an unidentified deputy told Hytrek’s attorney Tom Prickett that Hytrek hadn’t threatened the SWAT team in any way. However, the SWAT team members were concerned that he might brandish the hammer he happened to be holding as a weapon.
Hytrek suffered serious injuries as a result of the melee — so serious that the SWAT team had to send him to the hospital before he could go to jail.
A judge dismissed the false charges against Hytrek for harassment and assault in November 2012.

Oppressive regimes never lack thugs to do their dirty work. Never.
That's one SWAT team too many. There shouldn't be any. At all. Anywhere. These are not peace keeping groups. These are military organizations with the expressed purpose of making war on american civilians, which they do thousands of times every year. In a sane world the national guard would been sent in to disarm these military groups years ago.
My lilly white suburb of ~20,000 with two gulf courses has one of these. A SWAT team in this town is a solution in search of a problem. My house goes on the market next month. If the town wants to pay these animals to play soldier, that's up to them, but they won't be paid out of my property and income taxes.

The thing is if this had been an even with real danger, such as a crazed Democrat going nuts and shooting people in a mall, the SWAT team would have waited safely inside their armored vehicles until the coast was clear.
I keep remembering scenes from Arnold's movie Twins. These guys kept jumping into assaulting Arnold and coming out of it on the short end of the stick.
Arnold would repeatedly explain to them that you can always move from politeness and diplomacy to violence, but moving the other direction is a lot more difficult. And going straight to violence doesn't always work out the way you think it will.
So a wise person always starts off being politely diplomatic. Or, as TR said, talk softly and carry a big stick.

The USA needs to disband 99% of all the SWAT teams, give them their billy clubs and send them back to walk a beat.
SWAT is way over used. SWAT should not be used to serve warrants, resolve domestic disputes or ever go to a school to beat up unruly children.
As pointed out frequently here on FR, they need to go home safely and keep their pensions.

Yet with his gun, and the citywide chase, and accomplice driving, OJ was treated with kid gloves and allowed to move around in the car, enter his home, and no one shot him or tackled him, and he was a psychotic slasher and a mass of athletic muscle and speed, with a super tough accomplice with him, also untouched.
BTW, Pottawatamie is SW Iowa, not NW. As in Council Bluffs, aka Counciltucky. High population of Democrat inbred rednecks there.
