There was a time when Hollywood was American (Vanity)

Cruising around youtube I came across this 9:30 video, one I'm sure most here on FR have seen before, but it is worth spending another 10 minuets to see it again.

Jimmy Stewart in Mr. Smith goes to Washington, in those days Hollywood had something to contribute to America, something inspiring.

The Washington Press Corps did not like Mr Smith Goes to Washington as it painted them in a bad light.

Sadly, some things have not changed since 1939.

Not to mention the Ten Commandments monuments that Hollywood donated to towns all across America to promote the new blockbuster!

I used to think so.

Unfortunately, it all always been propaganda.

Just real slick, very, very slick propaganda.

What is the wrong message in that movie ?

What does the “good guy” have as a goal that’s actually wrong ?

The GOVERNMENT is assumed to be doing good by passing legislation regarding Smith’s boy scouts-like group.

Organized children’s groups are designed to remove children from their parents and indoctrinate them.

Under a cloak of “doing good”.

I was so brainwashed, as a neocon from a family of conservatives for hundreds of years, I could not see this for most of my life.

The new world order folks have appropriated everything that I “held dear”. As I wised up to what’s really been going on, I found that ALL my favorite old movies - even the MOST BELOVED movies from the golden age of movies - are just subtle propaganda.

BESURETODRINKYOUROVALTINE.

"Liberty's too precious a thing to be buried in books". Today's "liberals" are a mockery of the real thing. They've no use for liberty if it gets in the way of their government cheese. They are outright fascists which they of course deny even though their very actions declare themselves that. They just hide behind the label "liberal".

I used to think so

I still do!

I actually feel sad for folks who only find the negative in everything because the negative is all they look for. When you look for the bad in mankind expecting to find it, you surely will.

It’s not a question of “looking for good or bad”.

I’m not trying to “keep on the sunny side”, and sappily ignore propaganda that is inserted into fictional stories, just so I can “pump up my mood”.

NOR am I a “downer” “always looking for the negative” in fictional stories to rationalize why I’m “so down on everything”.

Fictional stories do not govern my happiness.

As a Christian, I know the Bible instructs me to always be joyous. A Christian has every reason to be joyous, even in tribulation.

But the Bible also instructs me to discern lies and not allow them to manipulate me.

So, if I see propaganda I identify it as such. I call it out.

if I see propaganda

Exactly!

Fictional stories do not govern my happiness

Your discovery of propaganda in "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" was the reason I responded that you are a "downer".

In the movie, our hero Smith proposes a bill in the Senate regarding his “boy scout camp”.

That’s nanny-state big government.

There’s no need for Congress to pass a law to set up a boy scout camp.

Yet Smith’s bill is hailed in the movie as being such a wonderful bill.

It’s FDR-era propaganda - big government is supposed to be a wonderful thing.
