Last year, my old Windows Vista machine became slower and slower. I decided I needed a new computer, but one look at the Windows 8 format turned me off. My wife was being treated for leukemia in Birmingham, Al, so I went to the Apple store there and bought a MacBook Pro. I paid about sixteen hundred dollars for it. My wife passed away last May so I haven't been able to use the machine much, but I have decided it is not for me. The main thing is that it was a complete hassle to try to install a CAC card reader so I could log in to my government email. I was never able to do that.

I finally gave up and bout a laptop with windows 7 and had no problem with my CAC card reader. I don't use the MacBook anymore and would like to sell it.

Here are some questions I have.

Where will I find a description of what it is and what it has? I thought I had read instructions on how to erase all my personal data but I don't know if it worked. There are (besides the Apple icon) three other icons on it. One has just my first name. Another has my first and last name and the last one says, "Guest User."

How do I remove the ones with my name? Does anyone have any idea what price I should put on it?

Post number 9 is your best solution to determining the details about
your MAC, which will be quite helpful if you plan on selling it.

Once you know exactly what you have, you can follow some comparables
on eBay to get an idea what the current value of your MAC

The Model Number would be the best place to start.
However, don’t ignore the other information, as your MAC could have
been custom configured, such as a bigger hard drive, more memory
etc.

Knowing exactly what you have will help you research current value.
Having the original box and packing will also help increase value.
In addition, if you purchased Applecare that is still current, that would
increase value.

Depends on who you are selling it to. Some people really don't care at all about original box and packing. I wouldn't pay a penny more if it had the original box. I'd charge a disposal fee, though, if I had to take the packing crap.

Yeah, I can see how that would be a personal preference.

Best Buy may buy MacBook Pro PCs. I know they buy used iPods, etc.

I found a site that told me how to erase everything and re-install OS.X. I am doing that now. I have also clicked on the Apple icon in the upper left corner and discovered what’s in my computer. Now all I need to do is research a selling price.

Upper left corner ;;click on the black apple;
choose "About this Mac".
then choose "more info…"

"About This Mac." That's what I meant, thanks!

(I use Macs regularly but not at home, so I was going by memory.)
