Two people, one carry a knife, plus 3 German Shepherds against 2 pit bulls? Most of our German Shepherds were VERY protective, and I wouldn't have been able to get to the pit bull with my weapon, with all 3 tearing it to pieces.

Kudos to the lady for have the guts to use her weapon, and the ability to make it effective.

I'm fully AGAINST anti-pit-bull suggestions... but these two did give up their right to cardio-respiration by attacking.

I applaud anyone with good knife skills.

Same results, BTW, should be achievable with properly trained bare hands (though a knife would certainly be preferred.)

Suggs was fined $200 for having loose dogs, right after she watched her dog getting stabbed to death, while she was trying to intervene. Talk about adding insult to injury.

Hopefully she will be more careful about keeping her dogs under control in the future.

This Suggs woman should keep her damn mouth shut and be grateful she’s not going to jail. Imagine if Miss/Mrs Duran did not have her knife and she and her companion had been mauled or worse. I swear these irresponsible people who own attack breeds like pits and rottweilers need to make sure their dogs are leashed or secure inside.

This is the area where last year a woman jogger was mauled to death by a pack of pit bulls — ripping her arm out of its socket and scalping her. I don’t blame this woman one bit for not messing around.

Probably the dogs were wearing Hoodies and the woman is a racist.

to quote Mark cuban,,”anytime I see a dog wearing a Hoodie, I cross over to the other side of the street!”

You REALLY have to know what you are doing to handle a large aversive dog bare handed. And have some serious strength. Few do.

A knife evens those odds quite a bit.

Agree w you BTW.

Fatalities with knives are double those of guns.

Not exactly.

In 2011 8,583 murder victims in America were killed with guns, 1,694 with knives (or swords, axes, etc.).

Nothing in the article about a semi-automatic assault knife either.

I read on another thread that that cat is going around just setting up dogs. That cat probably opened the gate and let the pit bulls out.

The problem is they believe they are just lovable pets. You nailed it. They are attack breeds.

Whats wrong with walking around with a knife? In this case it seemed to work quite well. And I personally think a knife would work better on an attacking dog than a gun. It would be easy to miss a small, fast dog with a gun.

“It’s the owner, not the dog”

Should read “It should have been the owner, not the dog”

People use guns much more than knives to protect themselves.

Guns have about a 35% fatality rate when used whereas knives are about 70%.

There were 751,131 aggravated assaults in the US, broken down by percentage of type of weapon as follows (2011):

Firearm: 21.2%
Cutting weapons: 19.1%
Blunt objects: 32.8%
Hand/feet: 26.0%

Meanwhile, total murders in USA that year were 12,664.

Of that number 8,583 were committed by firearms, or 68%.

1,694 were committed using cutting weapons, or 13%.

It is entirely reasonable to assume that someone who sets out intending to commit murder is at least as likely to bring along a gun as a knife. It therefore seems reasonable to assume that if firearms and knives were equally deadly, much less knives twice as deadly, then the proportion of deaths by violence would be similar for the two classes of weapons, given that the number of aggravated assaults involving them is similar.

Yet, as you can easily see from the stats, the number of murders by firearm is 5.2x that for cutting instruments.

I agree there are problems with this analysis, but I think it comes about as close as any to figuring which type of weapon is deadlier. Being attacked with a gun is roughly 5x more likely to result in your death than being attacked with a knife.
