I'm negligent in updating ... I still want to do an essay with pics.
The electricity came on a week and a half ago (with it .. the well pump and HOT WATER !!) and the internet/phone happened Wednesday or Thursday
I got the garden tilled late a week ago and have my beans, carrots and cukes in (all the easy stuff) and I have my sunflowers planted and a hill of watermelon
We're off to a church picnic in a few hours and we'll wind up the day at daughter and SIL's for some family time
I've been being lazy these last couple of days because I want to be lazy.
The two months following March 10 have been very tense (just ask my back and other muscles yet to loosen up) and we 're down to the little? nit picky things that will pretty much take the rest of the summer ... get the chicken waterer back working, organize some electric stuff, figure out what to do about a workshop (lost a lot of tools and peripherals), and a ton of et cetera's

New home is all electric which makes mama happy, but I can't even burn a stink-pretty candle without being wrapped in tin foil, set on fire proof plate and fire extinguisher within hand's reach.

I just want to say this as I am sure other freepers that have been following the story of your fire and the recovery are considering it in the same light. Your calm, positive manner of relating things and your apparent lack of anxiety and pessimism, is an eye-opener.
I am hopefully closing on a piece of property in the next few weeks and I am a little anxious about how I am going to handle all of this on my own. I had called my father yesterday to update him and it was mostly negative stuff he had to say about how overwhelming it is going to be for me and how I am not thinking about everything I have to look forward to owning a farm. I have sort of grown accustomed to the Old Man’s lack of positive mental attitude... and it just gets old as it wears on me. I have enough stress in life, you know?
Well anyway... I just wanted to check in and say your recovery has been inspirational. Thanks for sharing with us.

Having been through a house fire in a mobile home, I can completely understand. That was eight years ago, and any burning smell still causes my wife and I extreme nervousness.
We were lucky- we were home and awake when it happened (and our five year old daughter was at her cousin’s house). Started under the house, and between the neighbors and me, we were able to keep it under control with water hoses until the fd got there. We were doubly lucky in that the vfd was just getting back to the station from another fire, and made it to our place lickety-split.
The fire didn’t damage any of our possessions, but it ruined the house, which moved up our plans to replace it. The hardest month’s work I’ve ever done in my life, and worth every drop of sweat.
