Last January 2013, then Defense Secretary, Leon Panetta, ordered the Joint Chiefs of Staff to study the feasibility of opening all military jobs to women by 2016. This would include more than 200,000 jobs that make up the core of the ground-level combat force in the Army and the Marine Corps. Opponents of women in combat argue, rightly in my opinion, that the military's physical standards must not be compromised to expand access because our military's fighting effectiveness is at stake. Hauling 50 pounds of equipment while walking 20 miles is a standard that must not be demoted as it exemplifies routine combat challenges.

Women have no place in the military unless it’s in the medics.
How about NOT bring back the draft at all? (Unless it’s for a WWII-type crisis, when every swinging Richard and Jane gets called.)
Or data entry. They have no business being on warships, or in any combat unit.
The primary purpose of a draft is to avoid the mess we are in, it is to supply the military with young fighting men, which kept us from having to seek women and even 42 year old grandmothers to fill our ranks, as we have had to do in the post draft era.
We wouldn’t draft to get in more women, we would draft, to keep out women, and to return to the 2% female cap, and their work limited to legal, finance, and medical.
The draft is a miserable idea. We don’t need the draft. We have a fantastic volunteer military.

Females weren’t drafted in WWII, but females have been desperately sought since we ended the draft and keep facing shortages.
We were so desperate in the current wars, although our man power needs were relatively small, that we raised enlistment age so that we could accept 42 year old women.
Here’s a novel idea.
Bring the troops home.
Bring them home from japan, germany, and every other place that is not an embassy or consulate.
Forced service is antithetical to freedom.
That being said, if men have to register , women should have to as well.
If the Now crowd wants real Equality women HAVE to sign up for the Draft.(however daft that is..)
So either the Gloria Steinems of this country have to sign up or I’m burning my draft card(actually too old now but only symbolism counts nowadays, right?)
Actually, I heard an interview where a current combat soldier called into the show and said that there are lots of women that can do the job and should be able to do so. He also said that the real problem is what happens to the mans psych when they see a woman get hurt/killed. A man can’t handle to see a woman get hurt, and it clouds his rational thought process, therefore rendering him unable to do his job for quite some time.
I had a relative (female) who was a WWII nurse. Thank you for agreeing. She was proud to serve and proud to attend the wounded.
I’m dead set against women in combat including submarine service. But IF the draft is ever brought back, there’s no way women won’t be included.
They have a way out, get pregnant. I understand about 10% in the Navy do just that.
All can serve in some way! National Service should be Universal—18 months to build hiking trails, work in National Parks, help re-build the cities, man the borders, Serve in the military (There has always been a place for women—Soldiers got to eat, need clean cloths, Pleasure women as they had in the Foreign Legion etc...) This would help to bring national unity. How about a chain of national health clinics for low coast care for all? Manned by medics doing national service—Basic care only? ALL Would serve-No one gets out! Serve when you are 18 for 2 years or delay and serve 5. (Or volunteer when you are 16) Those who do not fit in should go to the Pioneer Labor batalions to build things, dig canals, wall for border, forts, roads, here the Non-Coms would have the power to shoot any who disobey! We could empty the prisons to fill these ranks. The Pioneers—the best—can go into a branch of the “Shock Troops” to be the first to land on the beaches-—use these troops as “Cannon Foder” they come back in body bags or come back covered with glory! They could serve in the VA hospitals as well—keeping them clean—cooking for and serving the recovering soldiers. Re-building them. All would be trained in First Aide, Marching and use of Fire arms. How about a foreign legion as well? Foreigners, Illegals, serve five years, and earn citizen ship for themselves and families. Use them to do the dirty work—the hard fighting. But give them the best officers—all must learn English! Form a new branch of service as well—The Border Guard! Tanks and Armored Cars to patrol the borders (North as well as south) and Man the Wall and Forts. Build a training ship—a tall square rigged ship for the Navy! The USS America—to help train cadets! How about a fancy yacht for the President and his family as well! Ran by the Navy—The USS Liberty. To be used for meetings with foreign leaders—a pleasure yacht with guns (it would be classified as a gunboat).
The youn people of America are a great resource that should be used for the greater glory of the Nation—this draft—or National Service—could do this. How many “Bad Kids” were saved by a hitch in the military? How many could we saved? The nut jobs like the Killer in Santa Barbara—could be identified and placed in a Mental Hospital where he could get the care he needed to be a useful member of society.
That’s why they have no business being in combat units or on warships. A lot of duties on warships don’t require the physical strength or stamina of an infantryman. But crew morale and cohesiveness are very important. In combat, the men can’t handle the shock of injured or dead female crew. In non-combat periods, they can’t handle the drama.
The purpose of a draft is to get rid of the women.
