The movie in 1966 was hilarious... the shark hanging off his leg, the bat shark repellant... the whole “BAM” “POW” WHAM” thing. As a kid, I loved it.

Frankly, this “Nero” guy seemed like he was almost a complete rip-off of the villain from “Nemesis.” To me, it was a total joke, only surpassed by his ship blowing up an entire planet (Vulcan). I would’ve called “Faux Trek: Into Dorkness” high camp, but that would involve it actually having an element of entertainment.
