In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

meliorism \MEEL-yuh-riz-uhm, MEE-lee-uh- \ , noun
The doctrine that the world tends to become better or may be made better by human effort.

Example sentences:
For a life worthy to be lived is one that is full of active aspiration, for something higher and better; andsuch a contemplation of the world we call meliorism .
-- Paul Carus, Monism and Meliorism , 1885

The leaders rejected the soft meliorism of more secular activists, the idea that significant progresscould be made through consciousness-raising and education campaigns, through consensus andgradual reform.
-- David Brooks, "The Ideas Behind the March," The New York Times , 2013

Etymology:
Meliorism entered English in the late 1800s. It comes from the Latin word melior meaning "better."

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

This girl probably likes spelling because her 'arents 9who named her) couldn't spell her name!

Karelyn is a future veterinarian who volunteers her time at her local humane society, where she often plays with the cats. At home, this animal-lover has three cats and one dog and can often be found knitting, creating beaded jewelry or playing the piano. She would love to meet country superstar Taylor Swift, who’s always on her playlist. Karelyn loves to meet fellow contestants at spelling bees and make friends with those who actually understand her love of spelling! She gets pumped up for a competition by eating a piece of candy; each time she has in the past, she's gone on to win.

But, she's a girl after my own heart with her use and excuse for CANDY! LOL

No. This member was so prolific that often her threads would go on and on with no responses. Her threads were lengthy, artistic, and graphic heavy.

Sometimes they were a little obtuse (at least to me.) I wasn’t always sure about her point, although she always had one. I haven’t seen her posting for several years. She may have gotten banned, or she may have left us because she was insulted at the lack of response. One of the old timers might remember her name, and a search of her name on FR would turn up that gif.

So were we! That was the most fun of anything I’ve ever done, I think.

We went from the Ball to my daughter’s in VA to be present for the birth of one of my granddaughters on the 23rd. It was a memorable week!

The AGW (or “Climate Change” – pick your favorite Lib euphemism) movement is the home of fascist, militant anti-meliorism & pseudo-science ...

There were people from the Wisconsin GOP establishment (including a National Committee member) who were locked out of the OFFICIAL G W Bush Inaugural Ball the same year that FReepers threw the “Count Your Silverware Ball”. They’d paid big bucks for the official Ball, and we’d paid $50/head, although many of us kicked in more $$$ afterwards when the committee came up short.

Somebody’s husband stepped out for a cigarette (from the official ball) and was never allowed back in to be with his wife because of Fire Marshall rules. Others said that the food at the official Balls was sparse and not very good, and the drinks were expensive and “watered”.

The DC FReepers threw one heck of a PARTY! I’ll never forget it — especially when Gov. Huckabee sang “Jailhouse Rock” and Kristinn and Dr. Rauel (sp.) danced in their masks and costumes.

My husband spent some time talking to the Arkansas Trooper who accompanied Huckabee to the venue. The trooper told my husband that Huckabee would take his band any place in AR to place at a wedding, or anniversary, for free. The people loved it.

The ‘Capitol Offense’ “because we hang around the Capitol and offend just about everybody!”

Huckabee said that the 2nd question on the job application at the AR Capitol was, “What instrument do you play?”
