I wonder what’s in these parenting classes. “It’s not your job to discipline your child. That now belongs to the state”.

??
Surely there is more to it than that? $200 fine for what? What is the problem with walking a mile?
“Had to sell the car to pay it though” should be his next words.

Totally goofy that some islands in the middle of the Pacific are part of this country.

How old is the kid? Does that dumb judge have a suggestion or just the usual tripe?

Not goofy at all. The Generals had to have SOME reason for their trips to play golf.

The father pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor charge.
That was his first mistake.
Well, maybe not his first. I would like to know the age of the child.

There were days in high school when I had to run the mile. Twice.

Uphill? Both ways? In six feet of snow? To listen to my Dad tell it, the kid had it easy...

Islands are for military uses. The inhabitants, like most island species undergo a gradual reduction in size. In the case of Hawaiian “persons”, the reduction was in cranial capacity and cognitive capability.
Now you know why Hawaii is a population of collectivists and their Nanny State gubment.

And maybe if he made the kid to a mountain top it would be a mile, uphill through the snow.

Please tell me that there is more to this story...
Like Dad was chasing him down with his car.
Or he was beating him with a stick the entire mile.
Or something ... walking one mile is a 'treat' (particularly in Hawaii in May)... Not exactly your Bataan's Death March.

Can I ask a stupid question? How did law enforcement even find out about.this? Did the kid call the cops when he got home, and report his dad? Did he tell a teacher in school, who decided that this was unlawful punishment? How the heck does the legal system even get involved in reviewing discipline of a child????

I’m glad i was never punished.
We live a little less than a mile from our school, therefore, ineligible for the school bus service.
My daughter WALKS to school occasionally if for some reason, I cannot take her to school on my way to work.
