The findings revealed that cat lovers scored significantly higher on intelligence tests compared to their dog-loving counterparts. However, dog owners tend to be more energetic, obedient and outgoing than cat lovers, according to Live Science.

Researcher Denise Guastello, a psychology professor at Carroll University, said at an annual Association for Psychological Science meeting in Chicago, that the average cat owner is more reserved, perceptive, tolerant and better at breaking rules than the average dog owner.

What cat lovers don’t realize is that the only thing preventing cats from killing and eating their owners is their small size.

We owned dogs when I was a kid, and it fell to me to shovel up their poop from the lawn and bury it. And bathe them and remove ticks. Cats are a lot less work. They bury their poop and clean themselves. I like dogs, but I've never owned one as an adult.

Which makes cats a better choice for professionals who are not home that much. So it's not so much the case that "smart people prefer cats" as "two-income couples have no time to properly care for a dog".

Paid for by the Cat Owner's Association of America?
As a Cat owner I wouldn't mind believing this study but I'm too smart to fall for such flattery.

servant to the cat.

Wait...what? I have dogs now - actually my wife and kids do, and I love them, but that means that at least once a day, we walk around with our dogs outside, and then they stand expectantly, watching to make sure we carefully collect their poop. We must take care to leave them with other attendants if we intend to be gone from the house longer than a single period of daylight, or they will destroy our house. If that isn't the epitome of servitude, nothing is.

When I just had cats, I threw their litter out and replaced it once a week. When I left for the weekend, the cats barely noticed. They're cool, efficient little predators, affectionate when they feel like it, they don't want or need attention like dogs - yeah, any dog owner pointing fingers at cat owners has the freedom to kennel his dogs outside - and most of us don't.

It makes sense, I like them both equally, but the pool of cat owners is going to have fewer mouth breathing idiots in it than the pool of dog owners.

Dog owners might be thinking of the themselves and their friends and family when they think of the average dog owner, but they also know that it is almost mandatory for the knuckle dragger low IQ crowd to also have a dog, or dogs.

That low end crowd among the dog owners, rarely has a house cat as a pet, and usually doesn’t even like them because they seem too mysterious and subtle for the mouth breathers.

It’s not surprising about the IQ of cat owners. A cat owner has to be smarter than their cat to have any chance at all to get their cat to behave.
