I was there. I was 6 years old. Mom & Dad took the whole family. I will never forget standing next to that globe. Dad worked for GM at the time so we went to see the GM exposition. They had a huge presence there.
So was Ford.The New Mustang was there.
I imagine they were. But, Dad being a GM guy, we never went anywhere near Ford! Too bad.
I wish they still had world’s fairs such as this. They don’t have these events any more do they? Haven’t heard about one, anyway.

I have virtually no memories from childhood, but I remember that whole day and evertyhing I saw. Odd.
I recall the Vatican Pavilion, where Michelangelo’s Pietà was displayed. It was quite a wonderment to me.

Not many years later, it made "Hemisfair '68," in San Antonio, seem small, at first.
Did the Knoxville exhibition in '82 take the shine of these kinds of things?
I was there as well. My uncle was one of the engineers in charge of bringing the Pieta to the fair. They worked at Sinclair Koppers ... wrapped her hands and packaged her in styrene.... Little balls of Styrofoam. The display of a moving walkway and blue velvet behind the Pieta was spectacular!
A little trivia...
During the final testing of the Lincoln animatronic figure, it sprung a leak and hydraulic fluid spilled out of Lincoln.
The hydraulic fluid was red.
Needless to say, this was deeply upsetting. Disney scrambled to find an acceptable hydraulic fluid that was colorless.
We went on a moving platform as I remember to see the Pieta. What a sight for a ten year old kid!
I only wish we had kept up those beautiful buildings. It always hurts me to see the ruins when we go to JFK.
I remember going to the World’s fair. Rode the It’s a small World ride - the convertibles into the future and the giant tire ferris wheel. Oh and the big globe.

I remember in grade school talking about the Pieta` and how the Vatican shipped it.
It was crated up and sat on the deck of the ship in such a way that IF the ship sank the crate would float free and could be recovered.
I was there that summer, as well. I was going into my junior year of HS the next fall. I went back to NYC (from Kokomo, IN) to go to nursing school. in the fall of ‘66.
Remember the show at the Sea Hunt pavilion, or whatever it was called? Did the bad guy really bang his head on the rocks? Anyone else see this?
I didn’t go to the fair but we drove from MA to visit my husband’s uncle in Queens.
The roads and exit ramps in the area had all been changed and we got “lost”.
My husband didn’t handle getting lost very well.
