The two drivers who were killed in a recent head-on collision in North Texas were reportedly husband and wife.

The victims were identified as Nicolas Cruz, 31, and Kristina Munoz, 26.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened midmorning on Wednesday, three miles west of Odell on County Road 87.

Both Cruz and Munoz worked on a farm nearby.

Trooper Tony Fulton said that after one of the cars hit a curve in the road it “collided head-on with unit number two, which was travelling south on County Road 87.

“This is a very narrow, blacktop county road and there are no markings,” Fulton added. “There are no shoulder markings and there are no center stripe markings.”

Troopers have noted that neither Cruz nor Munoz was wearing a seatbelt.

Both the husband and the wife were reportedly alone in their vehicles at the time of the collision.

Trooper Jymie Ha said that investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the crash, and whether the speed of the cars contributed to the collision.

Fulton noted that there were no skid marks on the road, which would have indicated braking before the collision.

hit a curve in the road

A vertical curve? Can someone "hit" one of those? It would have to be very sharp.

Can't be a horizontal curve, because there is no way to hit one of those.

I agree, the seatbelt laws are intrusive. I also don’t like them for children, as much as that irks a lot of nanny-staters.

Cristina Munoz and Nicolas Cruz Killed in Texas Car Accident

A lot of unknowns. They both worked at an egg farm, traveled between two bldgs used, and worked differing shift schedules according to some articles I've read.

Don’t think it was meant to look like an accident, but rather a murder/suicide.

There’s a reason that it’s called the “suicide seat.” Very dangerous no matter what.

Me too. My sister and I decided our parents were trying to kill us (I grew up in the 50s) because not only didn’t we wear seat belts, our mother smoked as she drove and we were always crawling back and forth between the seats (well, until she told us to stop).

I think current child regulations may be a little excessive, but now - especially after that one experience - I realize that we’re sort of like pieces of popcorn in the popper once the car gets hit. Laws of physics...the car stops, but unless we’re attached to the car, we keep on going. Not to mention when the door pops open and you just get ejected.

I had to translate a case where an attorney’s son was killed in a relatively minor head-on collision because he was thrown from the car. I think, sad to say, the attorney was looking for someone to sue. But everybody else walked away from the collision, where the vehicle rolled over a couple of times, except his son, who had been at the wheel and was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the car. Oh...and he obviously wasn’t paying attention and had crossed into the other lane. Even so, it was at a low speed and the other driver wasn’t injured.

I think seat belts offer major protection in minor crashes, which actually take a lot of lives. Most crashes happen within one mile of home and not at a high speed.

Sad if they were newlyweds. May they rest in peace.
