Rep. Tom Cole ‘strongly opposed’ to housing illegal alien minors at Ft. Sill

...the White House is dealing with what it calls an “urgent humanitarian situation” — tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. Rep. Tom Cole of Oklahoma voiced his opposition to the practice of housing these children at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla.

In a statement, he writes:

Fort Sill Military Base in Lawton is expected to begin housing at least 600 unaccompanied minors who illegally immigrated to the United States. Since fiscal year 2011, the number of these individuals, usually from Central America, has grown from 6,000 to 66,000 last year. By next year, this number is expected to climb even higher to 127,000.

Using Fort Sill and other military bases to house illegal immigrants is simply an inappropriate use of military facilities. Moreover, I am concerned that what begins as an emergency measure could, over time, evolve into a permanent juvenile detention center for those who have entered the country illegally. This could result in a confusion of missions at what is the one of America’s premier military installations.

The plans I saw were not simple. No, putting up a cow fence is all of useless. I agree. But a real fence, like some of the proposals, would be quite effective. And doable if we want to.

China built the great wall 3000 years ago. It worked well. I think we can do better. AND accommodate the river.

I brought this point up to someone here about a year ago.. and was told that “border security is more important than some cows getting a drink”.

The stupid burned so hot that I felt it on this end, so I didn’t pursue the matter.

The thing with the cows/water needs is that it is dog simple to solve. It is basic irrigation that happens every day throughout the world. Simple water diversion.

Ultimately there is no need for it to be either/or. We can have both.

That said, if it ever came down to it, we just take the River, DMZ the thing and if we feel generous, let them have some of the water.

Not that THAT would ever happen.

Indeed, even a putz like me could dope out several ways to handle it.

I tend to bring it up when folks seem to think it's just a matter of building a nice wall.

It ain't that simple. Not impossible, but a wall won't get it by itself.

That's OUR water and we ain't giving it up.

Just build the wall on the other side of the river. See? It is simple ;)

Seriously though, there are myrad ways to deal with the water thing. Even if we build the fence on our side rather than straight down the middle of the water, we can bring that water in. AND still defend/use the land between. That’s where the cameras, crossings ect come in.

A 100 foot steel wall sunk 200 feet down and down the middle would be nice, but no, it won’t happen. But it doesn’t have to. The border patrol now playing hide and seek at best could man crossings and camera centers along the length. Sensors are already out there. More can be planted.

So many ways to skin the cat.

Well, if I were king...

We’d have a series of camps (read: trailers) along the river
each serving a few dozen deer stands 4 or 500 yards apart.

Texans would participate in a lottery to donate a week of vacation time to manning these posts, 3 x 8 hour shifts per each.

The State would provision these posts and provide night vision gear to them what needs it.

An advertising budget would be cleared to promote these operations, mostly on Univision.

Hell of a good time and service to the community.

But I ain’t king, and for good reason.

It’d be something we already know how to do quite well, and something we enjoy.

Hell, even building and maintaining such things is considered recreational activity.

Just sayin’..

Oh, and special off-season deer hunting permits for participants on site.

Falls under “provisioning”.

Thanks Gunner. I think there are some who would prefer a fence like this; /S

I mean, we have child refugees, no one knows what to about it, and we still think this is all a political debate. It happens right after we trade 5 terrorist for a traitor, right after Obama directs the EPA to destroy the country, right after we learn the admin is killing vets, right after he lies more about Benghazi, right after we learn the IRS is being used to target his opponents, after we learn Harry Reid was trying to steal a ranchers land for Chinese solar panels, after we learn the EPA was conducting harmful tests on unsuspecting subjects so they can increase regulation..........
