Texas Gov. Rick Perry drew a comparison between alcoholism and homosexuality, during a visit that also dealt with economic issues.
Perrys comments to the Commonwealth Club of California came after Texas Republican Convention on Saturday sanctioned platform language allowing Texans to seek voluntary counseling to cure being gay. [ ]
He said: I may have the genetic coding that Im inclined to be an alcoholic, but I have the desire not to do that, and I look at the homosexual issue the same way.

Leave it to the AP to completely mislead and distort in their headline.
Of course, Gov. Perry is correct.
In fact, there is more scientific evidence of a congenital predisposition to alcoholism than there is for homosexuality.
Of course, they’ll crucify him for it anyway.
"a congenital predisposition to alcoholism" takes us nearly to a trespass into the realm of racism which is absolutely taboo but a congenital explanation for homosexuality does not.
A "congenital predisposition" comes close to a genetic predisposition and there is much reason to the view. When Indian tribes or Eskimo communities have documented alcoholism rates in the 90 percentile, it is difficult to assign this to any cause other than genetics. When Indians on the frontier became instant alcoholics on their very first exposure to alcohol, the nurture side of the nurture/nature argument seems unpersuasive.
The left has no predisposition to defend alcoholism but it does have a "congenital" predisposition to support homosexuality. There are very few human rights left which the left will support. They are, for example, in the process right now in America and in Europe of abolishing free speech. But one of the few human rights which they cling to like grim death is sexual license. Hence the support of abortion and the recent example of Planned Parenthood exhorting teenage girls to explore sadomasochism.
If homosexuality is a matter of "choice" rather than congenital predisposition, the rationale for it is lost. Since homosexuality is relatively consistent in all races-as opposed to alcoholism-there can be no charges raised of racism. One cannot compare the incidence of alcoholism among Jews to the incidence of alcoholism among Irish, Scandinavians, Indians, or Eskimos.
Of great interest is the taboo on the left from making judgments about alcoholism and race because they instinctively recognize that the next step is to make judgments about intelligence and race.
He in no way linked alcoholism and homosexuality.
I am tired of the “press” and their lies.
Left unsaid, but understood, that is truly the biggest taboo of all.
Hopefully logic like this will stop the nambla gang in their tracks.
Just because one is born with a predisposition it does not give one full unencumbered license to act upon said predisposition.
Unfortunately brave powerful voices have been scarce.
He said: “I may have the genetic coding that I’m inclined to be an alcoholic, but I have the desire not to do that, and I look at the homosexual issue the same way.”
What it means to me is: “if you don’t want to get drunk, don’t take the first drink.” And, “if you are a man and don’t want to be gay...don’t put stuff where it don’t belong,” which is about as polite as I can put it.
I think Perry’s 100% correct. It’s a proclivity some are inclined towards, and they fall into the lifestyle. I’m sure drunks would love to have societal backing of their behavior, but I guess they picked the wrong vice.
A few decades ago he would have been called capt obvious. Today he’ll be the hater, phobe, fringe, tea party, gay basher.
I agree. I also agree with what he said. It might be if Rick Perry would just study up on more issues and speak from his evaluation of them he'd be fine. It just might be that when he's parroting someone else's talking points or agenda that he stumbles. Maybe he should learn to say: "I'd like to look into that matter and get back to you with my answer". It's often a sign of intelligence to need to analyze a problem and come up with ones own solution.
My feeling about homosexuality is a little different. The assumption is that everyone from age 10 or whatever is supposed to have homosexual or heterosexual tendencies, according to the behavior police. Many people go through huge portions of their lives with no sexual interest. I wonder if thrusting the need for a sexual identity on teens and even young adults isn't part of what's causing so much "homosexuality". Some young people just aren't interested in dating etc yet....and what's wrong with that?
Rick Perry is correct.
In Kalifornia?! Was he not arrested?!!!
This uttering of truth, not to mention firmly held convictioons, could be the death knell of politics as the MSM knows it.
Good for you, Governor Rick. May you remain Governor of Texas forever, and keep it open as a refuge for the rest of us.
Doubtless some are born queer, just as some are born salesmen, or ball players. The overwhelming 99% majority must work and practice constantly.
That isn’t what he said
