Mass. EBT cardholders spent $50M out of state
Boston Herald ^ | June 14, 2014 | Erin Smith

Bay State EBT card carriers spent nearly $50 million in welfare cash out of the state last year — including destinations as far away as the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, officials said yesterday.

A total of nearly 27,000 welfare recipients used their state benefits elsewhere between July 2013, and this past April, the Department of Transitional Assistance reported.

The DTA reported 2,741 food stamp accounts were shut off in the past year after the recipients spent more than 90 days out of state. Another 246 cash assistance accounts were also closed during the same time period after recipients lived outside Massachusetts for more than 60 days, according to DTA Commissioner Stacey Monahan in a letter to state Rep. Shaunna O’Connell (R-Taunton).

The report says it all. It’s amazing how many EBTers I see driving brand new vehicles, in designer clothes who seem to shop a lot (used to see them often at an outlet mall when I used to earn a decent living before The One appeared)

My little county of 30K has 20% people on Food Stamps, SIX THOUSAND OF THEM!

If you go into WalMart after 11AM (it upsets them to get up before then), you see them everywhere - in PJs, flip-flops, shorts, sweatshirts and some in designer clothes.

They always choose check out register #11 because that’s the one with a dedicated cashier, and where the cigarettes are. They present their WICs certificates, buy their hamburger and steaks I can’t afford now, and Ding-dongs and chips, snacks - whatever strikes their fancy.

Two piles....one for EBT, and the other for cash (if they just have to pay cash), and then its the cigarettes, beer and wine they always have cash for.

Outside, their cars and truck are better than mine. Effing leeches.

Well I guess that’s good if you’re a business owner in New York or Connecticut.

There is no reason to keep giving people things past 6 months.
Since many will not make more than minimum it makes no sense to pay them more through hand outs.

In addition, these kinds of people often work gray markets making income that is never reported so they can stay on the dole and get the freebies.

At some point we need to stop giving the hand outs and we also need to quit paying 300% salaries in government for jobs you can train monkeys to do.

Hey Travis, Good to have you back ashore and among us landlubbers again. We missed you and your great memes.

Looking at your EBT meme, I think I just had an "epiphany." If food, housing, air fare, hotels, vacations, golfing is free for Obama, why can't it be free for everyone in the good 'ol USSA (including those yet to cross our borders)? Let's really spread the wealth around.

"Hey world, lot's of free stuff in America, come and get it! You can thank me when you get here. And don't forget, "you didn't make that," I gave it to you."
Signed: Barry Soetoro Hussein Obama

Ive used that line many times myself, “a liberal is a very charitable, generous, good hearted person who would gladly give you the shirt...

...off of someone elses back.”

Welfare has been mainstreamed, and it was the state that did it. Welfare used to be managed in Massachusetts by the individual town, so it was your neighbors supporting you (and they knew it), not the faceless state government. And to avoid using that terrible word “welfare”, they came up with the EBT acronym and call them “benefits”. Instead of the recipient having to present food stamps, they swipe a card so other customers assume it is just another credit card. They advertise on the radio and I believe you can sign up for welfare online in Massachusetts.

My blood boils whenever I see the “We Accept EBT” signs in store windows (and I see them a lot more it seems). The shame has been removed and that is only increasing the welfare rolls.

I too am sick of seeing these overweight, bad-attitude-wielding parasites with their carts filled with food I don’t have the budget to buy, swiping their welfare card charged up with my tax dollars while I fumble through my envelope of coupons.

And never go to Walmart for several days at the beginning of the month when they get the new money infusion onto their EBT cards. Walmart will be 3 times more crowded than it normally is. You can easily tell which shoppers are using EBT. Their carts are full and they are filled mainly with junk and process foods, and often more expensive cuts of meat.

Also, at the beginning of the month I always see a host of abandoned shopping carts around town. The welfare and food stamp crowd push the carts home then shove them into the streets or onto the sidewalks. And they are living in decent neighborhoods as well because our government gives them money to live there through Section 8.

It comes from various angles...

Newspapers in El Salvador and Honduras are promoting policies by the Obama administration that defer deportation to minors brought to the United States as children by their parents — known as “Dreamers” — and those that are housing illegal children at military bases in the South and West.

“Almost all agree that a child who crossed the border illegally with their parents, or in search of a father or a better life, was not making an adult choice to break our laws, and should be treated differently than adult violators of the law,” Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson is quoted in a story about a new two-year extension of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy published by Diario El Mundo in El Salvador.
