why didn’t they start their investigation 5 years ago when the desertion actually happened?
There was an AR 15-6 investigation done by the command in Afghanistan at that time. This is now FIVE years later and Bergdahl is back in US custody, thus the need for a new investigation to examine what happened in the last five years. The original 15-6 investigation will undoubtedly be introduced as evidence for this new investigation.
