2014 US Open: Man gets DWI after hitting state trooper with golf cart
CBS Sports ^ | 6/15/2014 | Kyle Porter

Posted on 06/16/2014 7:08:18 AM PDT by logitech

I've seen a lot of crazy things at a lot of golf tournaments but I'm not sure if I've ever seen this. A man at the 2014 US Open who was driving NBC's Roger Maltbie around the course got a DWI on Saturday for driving the course under the influence of alcohol.

According to GolfWeek the story was as bizarre as it sounds.

"The officer was upset because, according to him, the driver ran over his foot when leaving the tee area. The cop then chased the cart on a sandy surface just outside the gallery ropes while yelling, 'Stop! Stop!' and 'Come back here.'

The officer finally caught up, climbed onto the back of the cart and put his arms around the driver's neck and shoulders from behind. As Maltbie came over to try to help his friend and colleague, whose name he wouldn't divulge, the patrolman handcuffed the man from behind and arrested him.

'This is a new one,' Maltbie said while walking down the 11th fairway at Pinehurst No. 2. 'I've been to a couple of rodeos and a county fair, and I've never had this happen.'"

The Fayeteville Observer said the man was charged for a number of things.

"Thomas Lineberry, 59, of Wilmington, was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, hit and run, driving while impaired and resisting, obstructing and delaying a law enforcement officer, according to Pam Walker, a spokeswoman for the North Carolina Department of Public Safety."

The highway patrol has no authority to arrest a man fore “DWI” for driving an off road vehicle on a golf course.

My “favorite” was a DWI I prosecuted early in my career where a guy was driving on I-95, pulled into the truck Weigh Station, got out of his car and demanded the Trooper weigh him.

Well, at least he didn't get a beat-down, and his dog survived the encounter.

I presume there were no small children or toddlers around to flash-bang?

Thomas Lineberry must not have seen the squadron of camoed MRAPs or the ninja-suited SWAT teams hidden in the crowd...

Since NBC has the money to pay Cheslea Clinton $600K to curry favor with her parents, they should have much trouble coming up with a lawyer who can walk this one into the Lee County Courthouse and give everyone including the judge a good laugh. And, while the lawyer is at it, he should ask for a few delays after ensuring the the Highway Patrolman is in court each time. Hopefully, the patrolman lives in Asheville.

After reading the article, I see the problem:

The "civilian" didn't Kneel Before Policeman-Zod as he was ordered.

Cart Driver Charged After Run-in-With Trooper
http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/wireStory/analysts-cart-driver-trooper-run-open-24143318

An Associated Press reporter who witnessed the incident heard Lineberry tell the trooper, "I'm supposed to get the cart to Roger."

"When a state trooper tells you to stop, THAT'S what you're supposed to do," the trooper responded, inches from Lineberry's face.

Some of the other peasants snitched Linesberry out right away, like the good little proles they were trained to be.

Not necessarily.

In some states “operating a vehicle while intoxicated” applies to operation anywhere, on the not unreasonable assumption that it’s hazardous even if you’re not on public land.

As this incident seems to illustrate.

Jonathan Turley, one of the last honest Lefties, is all over it:

Media Golf Cart Driver Arrested For Felony Assault On A Police Officer After Allegedly Running Over Officer’s Foot
http://jonathanturley.org/2014/06/16/media-golf-cart-driver-arrested-for-felony-assault-on-a-police-officer-after-allegedly-running-over-officers-foot/

Apparently, there was drama at Pinehurst on Sunday (as a non-golfer any drama would be welcomed in my view). It came in the form of an arrest on the green after North Carolina Highway trooper Ryan Ashley Goodin said that a golf cart run over his foot (witnesses said it was more like an unintentional brush). Goodin ran after golf reporter Roger Maltbie’s cart driver, Thomas Howerton Lineberry, 59. Lineberry is a volunteer. Goodin reportedly jumped on the cart and put Lineberry into a headlock and then arrested him. He then hit Lineberry with a dubious array of charges, including assaulting a police officer.

Linesberry apparently didn't realize his place in the King's scheme of things, and now it's gonna cost him.

If you see Blue Barrage Balloons and Shiny Badges, and you can't IMMEDIATELY exit stage left, grab your forelock, look down at the ground, and mumble "Yessir, Yer Lordship, sir" as many times as you need to.

DON'T make eye contact.

So this cop charges a guy with felony assault for rolling over a foot uninjured enough to run after a golf cart, resisting arrest for defending himself from an assailant who attacked from behind, DWI for driving an offroad vehicle on private property, and delaying an officer for not stopping his cart when one a-hole in a crowd of people yells stop.

I really wish there was a way to punish these power tripping jack boots but it seems like the judge and prosecutor involved are just a gung-ho as this rambo wannabe cop. I guess it’s easy when it’s not their lives and money on the line.

“Ryan Ashley Goodin” So he's a generation Y, most likely spoiled rotten and used to mommy and daddy(if there is one) bowing to his every wish.

Probably was dumped in day care at 6 weeks and is really unable to relate to anyone so he throws a tantrum.

Why? The patrolmen would love to make a few court trips. Easy work and they get paid overtime.

If the cop was able to chase him down his foot

wasnt hurt very bad.

Sounds like the cop just felt dissed.

Lineberry is accused of hitting Trooper Ryan A. Goodin, who was treated at a
medical trailer for a minor leg injury. Goodin had instructed Lineberry to
stop before he was hit, according to multiple media reports. Lineberry was
driving the cart for NBC Sports analyst Roger Maltbie, according to news reports.

Goodin, who is assigned to the Statesville office, is one of approximately 170
state troopers assisting with security during the U.S. Open Championships.

“The highway patrol has no authority to arrest a man fore “DWI” for driving an off road vehicle on a golf course.”

Oh, you might be surprised as to what authority the cop has. I researched it once (for fun, never had a problem myself, fortunately) - the term is “Operational Control” of a motorized vehicle. And, believe it or not, a man working on his car, IN HIS DRIVEWAY, ON BLOCKS, was given a DUI when the neighbor called the cops because his music was too loud.

Now a lawyer probably got the guy off of that charge (don’t know)...but the laws are SO LOOSE that the cop got his wish - still making a mess of the guy’s life and leaving him with some SERIOUS legal bills.

...and it was not a one-off.

But let the pig make a mistake and piglets everywhere wilk demand we understand he is only human. Cops are nothing but two-faced thugs.
