Grantland.com editor-in-chief and ESPN everything Bill Simmons wrote a column last Friday titled "The Footnote Title." It was a list of 20 NBA champions that won the title due to the misfortune of others whether it be injuries, refs, suspensions, guys hitting fire extinguishers a la Amare, etc. This year's Derrick Rose injury is an example.
Here's where you may ask: RJ how many Spurs titles made the list? How about all four in the top 14! I understand if a list like this is done, it has to have teams on it, but all four Spurs title teams?
Might as well put a giant asterisk next to the Spurs logo.

ridiculous... it is all part of the game... it is all part of each and every game that gets you to the play-offs and then to the championship... in any sport... you cannot disregard a win just because of "misfortunes," especially in championships where you play a number of games--best out of...
this is "sour grapes..."

By Bill’s thinking, Brady’s championships should have an asterisk, since it took the old QB whom he replaced, Bledsoe I think, to get Brady into his first Super Bowl!
Injuries and incidents are part of sports. Championship teams work through and around these to still become Champions! There is no asterisk for making it to the top, unless you CHEATED (i.e., Barry Bonds)!!!
