I've been dabbling in sewing off and on (mostly off) for a number of years. Mostly what I would call simple things like panel curtains, dog beds, etc. With a 2 year old outgrowing clothes so quickly I thought I might try my hand at making some simple items for him. We have weekly gardening threads and semi-weekly recipe threads. I was wondering if anyone might be interested in a weekly (or semi-weekly) sewing thread?
Count me in! I’ve been sewing for over 40 years.
Any Project Runway viewers out there? I love watching the design and construction. The drama I can do without. I frequently yell at the screen: Shut up and sew!
Uncle Miltie! A crazy quilt of opinions ain’t the only crazy round these parts. Your post had me in stitches!
I’ve been sewing since I was 10. I learned at my mother’s knee and her old Singer. I have sewn everything from baby clothes, to a silk brocade evening dress that was completely lined, men’s pants, etc. I made my first dress when I was 12 and made most of my clothes from then on, into my 40s.
When my son was little, I took in sewing and alterations for extra money. I still have a sewing machine and “stuff” to go with it, but the arthritis in my hands is getting beyond intricate and/or delicate work. However, I can certainly give hints and if necessary, consult on difficult projects and fabrics.
Been sewing about 55 years or so, count me in, too!
Thanks!
Would enjoy that!
Fourteen or fifteen of those 33 x 20 x 14" plastic containers... and that's just the fabrics. Not the equipment, notions, batting or knitting stuff.
Put me on your ping list...
Same here. I was worried when I went off to college and got assigned an ultra-rich roommate. One time after I had gotten a dress from Good Will for $3 and altered it to fit perfectly, she sighed and said, "I don't understand it. I spend a fortune, and you look better than me." I didn't necessarily agree; but it did make me feel more at ease.
Love your screen name — “Eat and keep quiet!” LOL! Sounds like my Irish grandpa, only a different language.
I see what you did there!
Long, long time ago my Marine Corps issued me a ‘house wife’ that I still use for buttons and small rents in sox etc.
Would read up for information as to ‘how to’ because I’ve saved projects and repairs that are daunting given my current sewing assets...so put me in the list (might learn something)
Which is why I don't watch it.
Please add me to your ping list. Thanks :)
I would enjoy a sewing thread. I do mostly alterations these days because I am so short. I usually have to shorten both shirts and pants. I also love the idea of taking something old and reforming it into something new. I alter t-shirts a lot and make nightgowns out of pillowcases for my grand-daughter.
The Goodwill comment reminds me of the time my mother thought she would join the snooty senior citizen center in town. She wore a new pair of sandals and one of the women gushed over them and asked her where in the world she got those darling sandals. My mother said she told her she got them at Goodwill. The woman looked at Mother like she had slapped her in the face, turned around and never spoke to her again. Mother thought it was hilarious and also decided she didn’t want to join the senior citizens center afterall. We had a good laugh over that. My sisters and I have many fond memories of the neat stuff we got at Good will and like you we had to rework some of them. My granddaughters, 8 and 14 love to go to goodwill and poke around. I’ve bought sheets there to make curtains, I’ve bought crappy looking clothes just for the buttons. Men’s shirts to cut up for quilt pieces. Ladies dresses for the fabric for doll clothes. The possibilities are endless
Count me in if you start a ping list.
Eventually I found I could also do repairs and save even more, then I started actually making stuff, and spun over into leather work.
Start the thread...I'll play :-)
Thanks for the ping!
