My wife is going to Bangkok in August for work. She has 4 free days to spend touring. She's interested in going to Cambodia or Vietnam. What would you recommend that's unique and doable in a short time?
Yes, because a single plane crash out of Malaysia is an indictment of the entire South East Asia region of the world.
By your logic the Asiana Airlines crash in San Fran last year makes North America an unsafe tourist destination.
Maybe think before you post.
Nobody knows what happened to MH370. Stick your head in the sand if you want to. The world is a considerably more dangerous place today than in 2008.
Think about that.
What does that plane going down have anything to do with this thread? This guys wife is going to be in Bangkok and wanted to know about traveling in places like Cambodia and Vietnam. The Malaysian plane crash has exactly zero to do with it. The woman is already going to be flying into BKK. As I said, by your logic the Asiana plane crash in SF makes all of North America unsafe for tourism.
The world is more dangerous in some areas, less so in others. Thailand, while just having one of their periodic coups, is VERY safe for tourists. And venturing into Cambodia or Vietnam is reasonably safe as well.
The world is about to catch fire. Acts of Muslim violence will not be limited to the middle east. I believe that something dramatic is going to happen and soon. Primarily because no one is poised to stop it.

I think I’ll not make travel plans based on your beliefs.
I agree with the poster than a boat trip on the Perfume River to see the temples in Hue is a nice trip (have done this), or a trip to the floating markets on the Mekong (have done this), but with just 4 days, you end up spending too much time traveling country to country. Chiang Mai sounds very interesting.
