An Edmonton woman who says shes being discriminated against because she has 22 visible piercings is reigniting the debate about workplace dress codes.
Kendra Behringer, 24, complained that one prospective employer threw out her résumé in front of her, but lawyers believe her chances of establishing discrimination are slim to non-existent, while employment and image experts say businesses are entitled to set rules on how workers dress.
The [employer] is going to perhaps wonder, Will this person be able to conform to the rules that we have, or is this somebody who is more rebellious? said Diane Craig, president of Toronto-based image consultant company Corporate Class Inc.
Ms. Behringer has launched a campaign to make it illegal for employers to discriminate based on body modifications, something that would require an amendment to the Alberta Human Rights Act.
Her petition has amassed more than 200 signatures and shes looking for an MLA to put her case to the Alberta legislature, she told the Edmonton Journal.

Trust me, the rest of her is much, much worse.
I know a guy in his forties with all kinds of piercings and tattoos. He brags about them. I guess he knows that’s all he has to brag about.
No,not “chubby”.......obese and very ugly.
So she’d be all right with people walking around with swastikas tattooed on their foreheads?
Oh now, wait, that’s political, and we have the 1st Amendment that states no one can voice and unpopular opinion.
How about fat guys with their bellies bulging over top of their belts and mid-riff tee shirts?
Would she be OK with that?
Seriously, jackass, go find another job.
A whore...and a fat one at that.
If she puts on a hijab, she’s got the job. Rhyme unintentional
How many invisible piercings does she have?
doesn’t matter if it’s an at-will employer.
That much body mutilation is a sure indicator of being a victim of child sexual abuse. Or so says a shrink that I know...
I think I will mutilate myself and demand that other people like it.
Like she needs yet another hole in her head.
Not really....that many piercings means she is psychological unsound
Her biggest problem as an employee is NOT the piercings and their negative effect on the vast majority of potential customers (assuming that she is not applying for a job at a tattoo/piercing parlor).
Her big problem as a potential employee is ATTITUDE. “It’s ALL about ME!” “The company, the customer and the boss all take a backseat to ME!”
As far as labor goes, it is a buyers market: more job seekers than jobs, therefore the employer will seek the BEST person for the company and not just any old warm body to fill a slot.
It is called competition. Welcome to the real world, young woman, this is no longer a college campus where emotion and pixie dust hold sway.
Boy, I just bet she came to the interview with a *sparkling* personality and “this is someone I want to hire” vibe.
Yikes.
Guilty as hell
I don't... but if you are curious, she probably looks like she fell face first into this:
Bow-wow guilty! She has enough metal in her head to pick up Radio Free Europe.
