Sequestration pushes DHS contract spending to lowest level ever

The Department of Homeland Security's contract spending continued to decline during the first year of sequestration and fell to its lowest level ever, according to a new independent analysis of government contract data.

Compared to its much larger sister agency, the Defense Department, the fiscal 2013 decline in contract obligations by DHS was relatively modest, the latest annual review of Homeland Security spending by the Center for Strategic and International Studies found. While DoD's contract dollars shrunk by 16 percent between 2012 and 2013, the decline in DHS was just 3 percent.

There are a couple of reasons for that, according to the authors. For one, DHS already had undergone a 12 percent reduction in dollars on contracts the year before, prior to the triggering of the automatic budget caps.

Also, the 2013 numbers got a boost from the sort of big-ticket purchase DHS only makes every few years: $500 million for the USCGC Munro, one of the large, high tech national security cutters the Coast Guard is building. Without that single contract, DHS spending would have dropped by 5.5 percent.

This is all CRAP. BS and diversion. It hasn’t stopped them from doing anything.

Sequestration is what happens when you cut the government....most of the cuts are great but when you cut the security on the border, that is not good at all. I still can’t believe they want to put 10,000 of these kids in Montgomery County, Maryland....are we ever going to get rid of them when they are going to various states? Thank God Anne Arundel said, “Go away, we are not taking any”....well they were more diplomatic unfortunately.

The ‘sequester’ was $85 billion over a year. They Fed has been printing electronic scrip to the tune of $85B per month to legitimize T-bills and buy MBSs to pump up the stock market EVERY MONTH! Now reduced to only $75B/month.. All electronic chicanery designed to mask a failing economy.

To blame ‘sequester’ for anything is beyond the pale. This story is horsesh!t.

Probably the protest of the DHS Eagle contract had more to do with their inability to waste taxpayer’s money.

Still way too high for an utterly useless government alphabet agency.

People need to be aware that the DHS is an empty shell Corp type that cannot do anything
on it's own. They are the contractors of Feds who seek the
Subcontractors (local police) to do their bidding.

Take their money away and they'll dissolve into an empty office with porn on the computer.

Regardless, they are a threat to Americans by their pointy finger
classification of terrorist groups like the AFA.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
