A convicted felon, eh? Well, we know he didn’t possess the gun legally.

They should hang him for killing that new father.

“The damn gun doesn’t usually shoot,” Shisler’s arrest report quoted him as saying. “You have to squeeze the hell out of the trigger to shoot it.”

Shisler told deputies he tried to pick up the gun by its trigger, but it fired a hole through his window screen. He later told deputies he hid the gun under his mattress. A blood test taken more than four hours after the incident showed Shisler had a blood alcohol content of 0.079, deputies reported.

There is no justice in this world.

It’s all just random madness.

According to the Jackson County Floridan, Shisler was arrested after the new dad was killed by the stray bullet. The tragic incident happened in Panama City, Florida, on Tuesday night. After the shot hit Justin Ayers, police responded to the 911 call and found Shisler in the yard at his home. When asked about the incident he first said “it was fireworks, an M80.” History indicates this isn’t the first time the man has tried to pass off such a story.

Authorities described Shisler as being “extremely belligerent” and he was soon arrested. As he was being questioned he said he had a 9mm gun, but he insisted the shooting was an accident. He reportedly told police that “the d**n gun doesn’t usually shoot” and “You have to squeeze the h**l out of the trigger to shoot it.” It seems as he picked the gun up by the trigger it fired through the screen door and into Ayers’ home.

A blood alcohol test on Charles Edward Shisler indicated that even several hours after the shooting he had a.079 BAC. He also happens to have a previous conviction for carrying a concealed firearm. He is now facing possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and manslaughter charges.

It seems that neighbors had complained to the police about Shisler firing guns previously and there was a 911 call made in March. At that time, Charles Edward Shisler convinced the police that the sounds neighbors heard were fireworks. Sadly this time as Shisler monkeyed around with his guns, a new dad was killed by the stray bullet he fired. Florida has become known for some wild stories when it comes to crime, but this one is simply heartbreaking.

...it fired accidentally...

Accidentally, huh? I like what Brother Dave Gardner, a Southern night-club comic in the 1950s and 1960s, once said: "I don't believe in accidents, it's always premeditated carelessness."

Never mind why; how does one pick up a gun by its trigger?

I think you actually have to ping the mods for that...although maybe you hit the 'abuse' button, I'm not sure.

In any case, I hope you know my comment was directed to post #4 which is the picture of the perp. My comment was not at all a comment on the tragedy of this poor family.

(also, probably 99.9% of my posts are useless...bringing the overall "Useless Posts on FR In General" at least into the 50% bracket.)

I am sorry, though, if my comment came across to you ..or anyone...as about this family. I really will to keep that in mind in the future. Sometimes *I* know what I'm thinking, but it translates poorly via text. :(
