President Barack Obama and wife Michelle both worked minimum-wage jobs before they got law degrees: a character-building experience they said they also want their teenage daughters to share.
The president scooped ice cream at Baskin-Robbins, waited tables at an assisted-living facility for seniors and also worked as a painter. The first lady worked at a book binding shop.
"I think every kid needs to get a taste of what it's like to do that real hard work," Michelle Obama said in an interview with Parade magazine, slated to run on Sunday.
"We are looking for opportunities for them to feel as if going to work and getting a paycheck is not always fun, not always stimulating, not always fair," the president said. "But that's what most folks go through every single day."

Guess they aren’t as smart as the Clintoons. Chelsea’s first job was at a hedge fund, pulling down $100,000, and she’s upped that to over $1,000,000 in her newest job. The Clintons know how to shake down the cash.
Although I do believe its a good idea to have your kids work a job... it kinda defeats the purpose when the kids are taken to and from the job and their mansion in an escorted bullet-proof limousine.
Its gonna look funny with two secret service agents hovering of the fry cooker at McyDs.

when i worked for minimum wage, (fast-food, retail) i was in high school and college, and i had lots of fun at these jobs with other people my age and a couple of "grown-ups," either in management positions, or who were contributing to their families' income...
actually, by the time i was 19-20, i no longer made minimum wage because when i applied for new positions, i had experience... so i made 50-80 cents more per hour than minimum wage...
during a couple of summers, i got to work at the local cannery... now that was HARD work--but very good money... and most of the employees were my mother's age...
A month stocking shelves at Barnes and Noble will give them street cred to organize the minimum-wage crowd.

The fool doesn’t even see the irony. Those girls represent the majority of Americans working for minimum wage, young students making extra money in the summer.
Only 4.7% of the work force works for minimum wage. Most are teenagers living at home with their parents.
If you are an adult working for minimum wage you are likely either mentally disabled or an unskilled high school dropout.
