Sunni Militants Capture Iraq’s Last Major Border Post With Syria

With the last major border post into Syria now in the hands of Sunni militants, who also took the western town of Rutba on Saturday, the Iraqi government shut down the Internet in parts of the country on Sunday for more than six hours for unexplained reasons, effectively limiting access to information.

The Communication Ministry’s media department denied it was responsible for the shutdown, which affected some neighborhoods of Baghdad and parts of several provinces. Last week the government turned off all access to social media in Iraq to inhibit the ability of insurgents to diffuse propaganda and communicate with each other.

The taking of the border town of Al Qaim near Syria late Saturday after a three-day fight opened the way for fighters and weapons to move over the border with ease and was a worrying development, according to Iraqi and western officials.

The militants seem intent on methodically consolidating their hold on the large Sunni provinces to the west and north as the Iraqi Army’s attention is focused on securing Baghdad.

My husband and I got to visit Damascus WAY back when we were working for Saudi ARAMCO. It was a wonderful city, lots of Soviet presence. TOO BAD it's in such a shambles now.

BASHER isn't half the leader/despot his father HAFIZ was. The only money they ever got was from tourism. War isn't good for tourism.

That part of Iraq is gone forever. It will only exist in non Sunni history books.

Syria is in real trouble with the Sunni’s wanting to kill all of the non Sunni’s in Syria. The ISIS mass serial killers are the same ones trying trying to overthrow the non Sunni Goverment of Syria.

When do the Sunni’s invade Baghdad? Then mass murder the non Sunnis living there and destroy a large part of the city?

Any non Sunni’s with the funds to buy a one way air ticket for them and their family should be exiting Iraq quickly. The upcoming mass murders by the Sunni’s against non Sunni’s will rival the Nazis in Europe in the late 1930’s and early 1940’s.

Last but not least, we need to get any Americans out of Iraq asap.

No matter what the U.S. does in Iraq or Afghanistan or Syria or any of the other countries in that region, there will NEVER be peace. These are RELIGIOUS wars that have been going on for hundreds of years and will continue.

We need to pull out completely and let them all kill themselves. The bad part is they want to kill us to.

We need to pull out completely and let them all kill themselves.

Arm both sides. Give them all the guns and ammo they need. The Iran-Iraq war was a great foreign policy success

Islam cannot co-exist, not even with Islam.
