When the Moors were expelled from Spain in 1492 (along with the Jews) it was the culmination of the centuries long war from village to village which was savage and exceedingly bloody.
We like to think of ourselves in the 21st century as being far more enlightened than those people 600 years ago. We trumpet, or rather we hear trumpeted, the slogan "diversity is our strength" but the victorious Christians in Spain obviously regarded that slogan as a message inviting suicide. Few could study the historical context of the time and judge them wrong, at least as far as the Moors (rather than the Jews) were concerned.
Muslims, as distinguished from Jews, operate under a belief system which is aggressive, exclusive, and medieval and the Christians who reclaimed Barcelona were not deceived about the virtues of coexistence, at least with them.
