My Dad was a huge fan of Westerns. It was the ONLY type of movie we went to the theater for (back when your choices were TV, theater or nothin').
Now that I think back on it, I probably saw more of Wallach's work than just about anyone else's.

Was the Ugly Lee Van Cleef or Eli Wallach?LOL! I see someone has answered your question, but that one confused me for the longest time, too. Particularly since I though Van Cleef was actually the better-looking one....maybe it was the hair. :-)

One of the best! The standard he set makes it really tough to watch some of today’s (supposedly) ‘good’ actors. There’s just no comparison.

Some terrific memories will remain. Great actor.
To: Zhang Fei
Wallach was the ugly, at least according to the end credits.

One of my favorites, and he always seemed like a pleasant guy off-camera. He also had one of the longest Hollywood marriages: sixty-six years to Anne Jackson.
RIP.

He also had one of the longest Hollywood marriages: sixty-six years to Anne Jackson. That says a lot about him right there.

Eli Wallach also turned down the role of Maggio in “From Here To Eternity” and Frank Sinatra got that role and an Oscar for it.

I didn’t know that one, thanks!

Thanks for the link!
I was reading through his personal quotes, and it didn't take long to find a favorite-
The subtitle [of his memoir "The Good, the Bad and Me"] is "In My Anecdotage". Bill Clinton asked me if he could use it, and I said, "You sold two million copies of your book. How dare you try to steal my subtitle!".
ROFLMAO!

His quote lives forever in gun lore as good advice.
Oddly enough, in the gun store scene in The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, everything Eli Wallach does with the guns was completely unscripted. He knew little about guns, so he was instructed to do whatever he wanted. To this day, gun store owners have noted that many people buying revolvers rotate the cylinder to try and hear something.

He was pretty sharp then because listening for proper timing and indexing is how you determine if an old pistol has a worn pawl hand or other wear. There are four clicks in the travel of the hammer back to full cock and the timing of them is important.
