You know, I am OK, and I will be OK. Am I as happy and satisfied as I want to be? No, but few are. I am a family man at heart, and that has yet to be replaced, if it ever will be.

I am not so much sad for me, but for this world in which we live and my sons. My ex is very much analagous to our culture: if just a little bit in commitment and integrity is given, all of us would be much more content and happy. The longer I live and the more I look around, the more I am convinced that I “am not of this world”.

The summary is a very close recap of what happened to end my marriage.

It of course is very difficult to generalize too much with these things because each person and their marriage is unique.... but with some variations, this is the scenario that seems to be so common it dwarfs all others.

It sounds like you have prepared them the best that you can. I know that my son (15) is struggling with the slut culture in highschool. He has even asked me if girls in other countries are the same - I used to travel a lot.

You are 100% correct about the self-centered, “men are just there to support my desires” attitude that is so prevelent in today’s culture. I was lucky. I found a woman who put the family first and we have been married twenty years.

I am glad to hear that they are well grounded. They will need that as I fear things are only going to get worse. One other possibility for your son to consider, small rural towns and farms still have some ladies. After that, well I would have to say that marrying a forgiener is about the only way an American man is going to find a decent wife these days.

I understand and honestly, if it sounded like I was feeling sorry for you, I apologize. That was not my intent.

Maybe because their husbands suck?

So are you suggesting that the woman is free from her commitments because she realized after marrying that she had not done the required 'thorough evaluation'? Or that she simply made a mistake?

With all due respect, I am sorry I ever commented on this thread. I just don’t care to dissect who is responsible for the failings of marriages. My interest currently is on the IRS scandal, the flood of toddlers crawling in from Ecuador, the poor Marine left to languish in a Mexican jail, what programming they are doing to bergdahl, the sick crap Rove, McConnell, Barbour et al pulled in Mississippi.

So, again, I am sorry I ever commented on this topic, maybe when things calm down I will give it the attention it requires.

Marriage failings are certainly a different kind of problem than those you mentioned but of course on another level they directly tie into lots of other nationwide problems i.e. the failing school system, the health system, crime, drugs, teenage pregnancies, the homo agenda and on and on.

However, I'm with you on the need to focus on the items you listed....and of course add Benghazi, Ukraine.....

I agree and am fully aware of the dire effects of all the moral failings we are witnessing. I don’t mean to be remiss about the issue, it’s simply that my brain can’t take in any more information with what is happening now.

Of course, Benghazi and Ukraine are paramount as well.
Sigh, I long for the days when the King of Chaos isn’t out stirring everything up!

Traditional marriage does not exist in this country and has not for some time.

Traditional marriage wasn’t the product of individuals having greater willpower or spiritual strength, it was the result of specific social norms that have been abandoned — most importantly, that married men were entitled to priority for employment, that women were disgraced for having sex before or outside of marriage and doubly so if it resulted in children without a shotgun marriage, that divorced men were looked down upon, and that divorced women and especially never-married mothers had minimal financial claims upon their ex-husband / boyfriend or the state.

Even when two extremely faithful Christians marry, the husband and wife have untrammeled freedom to abandon each other and have no particular support from society to stay together.

“my son (15) is struggling with the slut culture in highschool”

They all seem to think they are the Kardashians (or want to be one of them). It is sickening. And it is the ‘mother’ of this trash family who is pushing her kids to make money by being trashy.

I feel the only salvation in our decadent and corrupt culture is from strongly evangelical Protestantism or , ironically, Tridentine Catholicism.

Hmmm ...

Without being too specific as to the vehicle, it is certainly true that the only salvation in ANY culture is through Our Lord Jesus Christ. The two movements you identify are certainly dedicated to Him.

Agreed but if anything, the chaos is getting cranked up, not letting up. This is why I occasionally take a break to other topics from time to time.... there are some things in life that should be a refuge from that chaos.

Well that is certainly true, and taking a big time off from the chaos is necessary for some mental health.
I guess I just didn’t feel that trying to figure who is responsible for failed marriages, just seems a fools errand. I’m quite sure we both have evidence of both men and women acting poorly within a marriage. There is more than enough blame to go around.
