(Ann's additional statement) ‘Do they even have MVPs in soccer? Everyone just runs up and down the field and, every once in a while, a ball accidentally goes in,’ she writes. ‘That's when we're supposed to go wild. I'm already asleep.’

'I promise you: No American whose great-grandfather was born here is watching soccer. One can only hope that, in addition to learning English, these new Americans will drop their soccer fetish with time.'

OK, I sort of liked Ann Coulter until this rant. Not only my great-grandfather, but 8 times back great-grandfather was born here and his sons fought in the Revolutionary War. I’ve loved soccer my ENTIRE LIFE and I’m 50. Ann went off her rocker on this one. Clearly.

OH, and if Ann doesn’t think it’s “rough enough” she’s never watched a game in her life. Just in this World Cup we’ve seen broken and/or bloody noses, men carried off the pitch on stretchers...and even a vicious bite from nutcase Louis Suarez!

Oh good grief she’s an idiot. Watching athletes in a sport that some find fun to watch makes you a LibTard? How about hockey. Does that make you Canadian? Pro football traces it’s beginnings to England. A love for Track and Field makes you Greek?

Ann lost her relevancy, and marbles, a very long time ago.

Did she leave out roundabouts?

here here Ann.

you’ve lost me of late, but you are reenergizing me to you with your great Soccer rant.

Soccer is one of the plans of the left to make us the third world or euro trash country they envision in America.

truth be known there are more concussions with soccer but they are on the case of the NFL about them. more lies like global warming and other leftist plots(plotz).

The tranny is kind of wrong. There is individual achievement in soccer, for example the golden boot. Also, individual soccer players sign their contract and play for their own career, except for in the World Cup, which is for the country.

I think the tranny is right on that soccer is boring and mostly non white, but it has high individual achievement.

The tranny’s argument is like saying quarterbacks are socialists because they pass the ball around.

While I agree that soccer sucks, I think Ann is losing a grip.

I don’t care how much I get flamed for this, but I agree with Ann on this point.

It might not be “moral decay”, but it certainly is cultural decay.

America sports are baseball and gridiron football.
“Multicultural” sports include soccer.

I’m 10th generation American. Scots-Irish ancestry. Also 10th generation military. Played soccer from 7th grade to age 34 when I had to stop due to a service connected back injury. I also played football, basketball, baseball, swam and surfed competitively. All of those sports are thoroughly American.

Ann is an irrelevant hack. I hope the skinny bitch falls through her ass and hangs herself.

Every 4 years we get silly articles touting America’s supposed new love for soccer. Mostly from the usual self-hating Americans that want so badly to pretend like they are Europeans or feel soooo ashamed that our most popular sports dwarf soccer in interest.

As if the fact that India, Australia, Ireland, Japan, and Canada also being lukewarm to the sport never crosses their mind. Nope, we are just all dumb rednecks for not seeing the wonders and sophistication of it.

Once the US is out of play, the interest in it will drop to nothing.

People that don’t understand or don’t like the game need to just shut up about it. The more they say, the dumber they sound.

What a waste of space. I can re-state Ann's column in about 10 words.....

LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME! DAMMIT, EVERYBODY (anybody), LOOK AT ME!

Soccer has been an easy target for tongue-in-cheek jibes for a long time, but its roots in the U.S. are now deep enough that the joke has gone stale.

I didn't grow up with soccer but I have two soccer playing daughters and have watched enough to have begun to figure out the game. At this point, I prefer soccer and baseball to football and basketball, which have degraded themselves in pursuit of tv dollars to the point that they are poor imitations of what they used to be. Soccer and baseball have stayed true to the game; I don't like the designated hitter, interleague play, or MLB playoffs, but the game on the field itself hasn't changed. Neither has soccer. And the athletic quality of soccer, as a pure running game, puts any other major U.S. team sport to shame.

U.S. women's soccer, btw, is among the best in the world, and has been for decades now. (That's probably due to Title IX, which has other problems, but it certainly boosted women's sports, though at an unnecessarily great cost to the men.)

The U.S. men's team is now a respectable middling power, ranked 13th in the world going into this World Cup. We're a long way from being a recognized power, but if this were college football or basketball, we'd be one of those consistently dangerous mid-majors that no one can afford to overlook.

I'm delighted that American sports like basketball and, to a lesser extent, baseball have put down roots in other parts of the world. Soccer putting down roots here is no different.

Lighten up everyone. This is just tounge-in-cheek satire. Reminds me of stuff I used to read back in the 1970s era “National Lampoon”. (and I mean that in a good way)

Within 25 years, the U.S. is going to a major international contender, WHY???

Because of wise soccer-moms. If you notice in the communities you see more soccer practices than American “football.” The moms figured out the game is less violent and her children don’t need to be a 300+ lbs. baby. Also investment in gears are much lesser!!!
