OK, I sort of liked Ann Coulter until this rant. Not only my great-grandfather, but 8 times back great-grandfather was born here and his sons fought in the Revolutionary War. I’ve loved soccer my ENTIRE LIFE and I’m 50. Ann went off her rocker on this one. Clearly.

I really don’t care one way or the other. But I do consider Soccer Mania around the world (not in this country, per s) nothing but Bread and Circuses, myself.

Yes, she’s gone off the rails. Just what “Republicans” need.

Ann has gone looney on this one. I am a retired football player, current football coach, who happens to have been blessed with daughters, one of which is a soccer freak. I like soccer now that I understand it. Yes, we make fun of the rolling around on the ground to prompt a yellow card.

Hey Ann, if you hate the metric system so much, you may want to consider give up our monetary system - it’s based on the metric system (base 10 instead of 12). you can trade stones and beads for you wants and needs.....

Articles like this are good for business. They generate traffic to your website. A conservative polemicist has been writing one of these World Cup columns for as long as I can remember (back to the 80’s), when I saw one in National Review.

Coulter is being deliberately snarky, as is her unfortunate habit. I will agree with her on one point, however: many American soccer fans are Euro-snobs who like soccer precisely BECAUSE it is not American in origin.

Seattle is a big soccer town - 30,000 or more average attendance for MSL games - and the Euro-centrism is slavish and sickening, e.g., the announcers MUST be British in order to lend "authenticity", and the chants and flag-waving exactly mimic the pattern of European soccer fans. And many fans think that soccer is oh-so-subtle and beyond the intellectual capacity of most Americans to comprehend. These soccer fans seem utterly clueless about the huge amount of planning, preparation, mental back-and-forth, and statistical analysis that go into American football and baseball.

Whenever I’m in an Irish pub I can handle some soccer while I eat or drink. But I don’t care who wins and whenever I see an actual score it’s almost always because they are showing “highlights”.

I find some aspects of the sport interesting, but most americans just want to see more reward for your effort. That is, more actual scoring. I consider even baseball more exciting than soccer, and that’s saying something.

BTW, my daughter started out in soccer and, like all the other girls on her team, as soon as she was old enough she moved on to Basketball. My grandson did the same, only he moved on to baseball at nine.

You understand, that the American version of football, played by men who form teams of offense and defense, with downs, lines of scrimmage, tackles, passes and touchdowns, is rapidly on the road to being outlawed, because of the long-term injuries done to the players, ethnic slurs contained in the names of the teams, and various constraint of trade agreements regarding league expansions and TV coverage.

With this mainstay of sports entertainment being shuffled off the scene, there just has to be a substitute to take over as the US version disappears.

And there is one in the offing. What is called “football” in the rest of the world, but known as “Soccer” in the US, is being promoted ever more strongly, to at last wean Americans away from their reliance on the high-contact and gladiator aspect of spectator sports, for the more genteel and unisex game that involves very little body contact.

Like the way was paved for that travesty called “gay marriage”. And introduced to the US by the same devious agents.

Soccer may be good or it may be bad, but it cannot be denied that liberals hate America and love soccer and are constantly ramming it down our throats for one reason and one reason alone: France and the rest of the world love soccer and we do not. Therefore we are bad and must be made to love soccer.

Ann went out with Bill Maher... she is a little ho in my eyes because only a little stupid ho would go out with this kind.

Of course she errs completely on this one. The NFL and NBA does not lack in its little butt kissing choir boys.

She went off her rocker some time ago with her Romney fetish, among other things.
