EWTN files for emergency mandate relief with Supreme Court
Catholic World Report ^ | 6-27-2014

The EWTN Global Catholic Network has filed a motion for emergency relief with the U.S. Supreme Court, asking for an injunction to bar enforcement of the federal contraception mandate.

Michael Warsaw, chairman and CEO of EWTN, explained that the network has already requested this protection with the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, “but that court has yet to respond to our petition.”

Without an injunction offering protection from the mandate, EWTN would be forced to comply with its demands starting July 1. As a result, the network filed its motion for emergency relief with the high court June 27.

“We are hopeful that the Supreme Court will grant EWTN protection from this onerous rule that would force us to provide contraception and abortion-inducing drugs as part of our employee health plan,” Warsaw said.

“As we have said repeatedly, these drugs and procedures are not health care and EWTN should not be forced to provide them or face over $35,000 per day in penalties to the government for refusing to do so.”

More of Obiwon’s War on Women, oops. I mean War on Nuns.

EWTN should ignore the mandate, and roll Mother Angelica up to the jail in her wheelchair. Now, that would get a few people’s attention!

President B-O seems to have quite a number of lower courts and judges walking in lockstep with him, both on this B-O-care issue, and on same-sex "marriage".

Praying for EWTN and everyone else threatened by the disgraceful, tyrannical, anti-American provisions of this monstrosity of evil legislation called B-O-care.

Best advice: the week kneed USCCB should make a blanket statement “All Roman Catholic organizations WILL NOT COMPLY with aspects of the ACA that WE deem to be against our religious tenants REGARDLESS of civil court rulings.”

Just be done with it. Start closing ALL the Catholic Hospital and charitable organizations today. Put the sick and poor out on the street. Let Obama care for them.

EWTN can show them the way and REFUSE TO COMPLY!

We must resist - if we have to fade into the hills and caves, or wherever. We are now under attack - under persecution - that exceeds anything we have endured in centuries.

If the relief is not granted by the Court, EWTN should, appeal, seek a stay pendente lite, and refuse to comply with the statute, if denied.

We are Catholic Christians, and we stand for the Truth of God.

In reading a book about Mother Angelica, the bishops would not help her so she struck out on her own.

They were not happy with her success.

This is a good example of why we needed staunch pro-life people in Congress. Only those who see abortion as the atrocity that it is would be appalled at the ACA mandate, and do something legislatively about it.

The courts are not supposed to be the last stop - the Legislative Branch is (according to Mark Levin).

This is the result of settling for the ‘lesser of two evils’. Best for Christians do what they gotta do now before it's too late.

Yes!

Catholics and Bishops who have rather openly or covertly canoodled with Democrats (and/or their Godless platform) socially, politically, privately and inside the Conference, using their “staff”, have gravely erred and caused error in the Church.

We are suffering and reaping the consequences in the Church, in our Catholic owned businesses, and every organizational attachment to the Church.

I just pray it has not already caused insurmountable and catastrophic damage. We seem to have entertained fools too gladly.

I agree with you. The Catholic Church has been known to go along with the leftist teachings in some churches and schools...like, for instance, some Catholic schools do teach Common Core, and some of the churches do go along with oboma and his ideology. With some of the commentary from Pope Francis in recent months about “sharing your wealth, the money earned from the sweat of your brow, with the less fortunate, or something to that effect, was a turn off to me, and it concerned me. I'm hoping and praying that our next Pope will be like the late Pope John Paul II, a good man, a true Catholic who believed in freedom and liberty, a man who fought the Nazi's in WWII, while doing good works for those people suffering under the jack boot of Hitler in Poland.

I agree. Delay, resist, obstruct, refuse to comply with any and all attempts by the enemy to destroy the Constitution, our liberty and freedom. We must be the freedom fighters for our time.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances

The free exercise thereof, in this case, includes NOT providing abortion, abortifacients, nor contraceptives.

Simple enough for those not agenda driven nor befuddled by being in league with Satan (who would love nothing more than shutting down anything which spreads the Word of God).

Apart from the courts of man, there is a higher authority, and He will sit in judgement.

Regardless of what the courts or the Obama administration says, the mandate cannot be complied with.

Not even the evil communist usurper in the White Hut could stand up to Mother Angelica.
