'The Hobbit' Part 3 News: Climax Of 'Battle of Five Armies' 'Sets Tone' For 'What's Going To Happen' In 'Lord of the Rings' Trilogy

The whole extension of The Hobbit's story has really been to get us to the point where we understand when we leave it what's going to happen when you pick up the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and this really does kind of set that tone."
He went on to add that The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies would serve as the "peaceful interlude" before the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Yup. Glorfindel. Though in other parts of the legendarium, JRR has some of the elven women as fighters. Notably Galadriel fights in one of the battles while the Noldor are leaving Aman. Presumably other elven women were also fighters, and just didn't make it into the stories.
Eowyn was the only kick-ass female in the books, but she by herself ought to be enough to satisfy any feminist, IMO.
Take today's problems with females in combat and multiply them by some factor, and you have the problem of females in hand to hand combat against males.

And they weren't just lttle changes. Some characters became the exact opposite of the way Tolkien had written them.
After being disgusted by the travesty of LOR, I have refused to see Hobbit. My wife has, but then she's more tolerant than I am.
There are two shortened 3 hour fan edits of the Hobbit, with the non tolkien stuff removed. I prefer the one called there and back again to the trilogy.
