ALWAYS watch everything you click on, download managers, etc., any .exe file must be suspect until proven kosher. Mind everything! Don’t allow anything to be installed, it’s how the sneaky bastards infect so many systems. And, scan EVERY file you save to disk. It only takes a minute! Malwarebytes is free, top-shelf, and comes highly recommended by everyone.

What's data mining?

OK, I'll bite; what is "data mining"?

What about midget-pr0n? I heard that it was safe.

You heard wrong. It's little different. In a short while you'll be infected; midget-pr0n only needs a tiny exploit and then WHAM! your whole system is brought low.

Bad news there! Micro exploit, small system footprint. Smells like cabbage.

Look, Mpr0n is no good for you anyway. The little thrill you get is short-lived.

I used to use spybot a couple years back. Well, maybe a few years now... Time sure flies when you’re having so much fun.

One example of data mining is the system put into place in all schools to collect/share data from various sources under the guise of Common Core and parents haven’t a clue.

5) Uninstall Java. Period.

I'm as close to a computer ignoramus as you'll ever fine....what does Java do, and if I uninstall what will I NOT be able to do?

If all else fails, go to majorgeeks.com and follow the instructions exactly. Warning: for experienced users only.

remove conduit search.

Glad Spybot worked for you. Conduit and other unwanted search engines are best addressed by managing (removing) them all from each affected browser. Just did that very thing this morning while cleansing a badly-infected computer.

Yep - sounds good to maybe be rid of it....but back to my original query - what IS Java, and what does it “do for” my computer?

I'm paying for Malwarebytes, and keep getting repeated bursts of this screen (Lower right hand corner):

photo Fullscreencapture72201492734PM_zpsb7069b51.jpgIt can be ignored for a while, but it's annoying. Mashing on "Update Now" just repeats the message—up to six times...

:-(

It got me recently and it took malwarebytes to get rid of a pest with the name Aztec in it.

I had to go into safe mode to delete the folder, change the add on in IE, and reset Chrome to defaults.
