An Albertville man shot and killed a black bear that wandered into his yard Tuesday evening, according to the Wright County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office got a call about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday from a resident of the 10000 block of 64th Street NE. in the northwest metro community, saying that a bear had come up to the sliding-glass door in the resident’s back yard.

A sheriff’s deputy spotted the bear near another residence a few blocks away, on the other side of a park and wooded area. Then a gunshot sounded, and the deputy saw the bear run into the woods, where it died shortly thereafter, according to a statement.

Of course, there was all of the usual uproar about "just leave the bear alone!!!" From urban dwellers, for the most part.

Not only was this father NOT charged. He was given a tag and allowed to process the animal.

Beating the high cost of meat in today's world.

The bear was black? Isn’t that racist? Expect Holder on his doorstep any day now . . .

Probably already thinking about shooting a movie . . . in the spirit of Trayvon. Poor innocent bearly old enough to drive - just walking through the hood looking to get to his crib.

Well, that’s the only color of bear in MN. We don’t get to choose.

In NJ the father would have been read his rights.

A month or so ago, we had a similar instance in the south suburbs of the Twin Cities. Cops decided to take the bruin out. With their service weapons. Nice try. It took a couple of handgun rounds in a rear leg. Now, we had an injured wild animal loose in a highly populated area. He was finally dispatched a week or so later.

In Albertville, the local residents know what it takes to do the job and safely stop a threat.

One shot. Done.

Bears are a daily occurrence here in Benderville Ca pop 38,627. Lady Bender saw one this afternoon trying to steal our bird feeders while I was at the supermarket. She keeps a AirHorn in a can by here computer table. This one was a few days ago…

From my experiences in NW Minnesota...

“Never put a bird feeder where a bear can reach it.”

“Never try to get a garbage can away from a raccoon.”

I’ve always said that.

So now it’s ok to simply KILL what a person thinks is an animal if it’s in his backyard? What if it were a child dressed up as a bear? Would that be ok? And why does this man need a gun anyway, when he can just as easily call 911? Never mind - he answered that with his BLOODTHIRSTY shooting of a defenseless animal.

(as seen through the eyes of today’s Democrats)

Wow. Wasn’t sure where you were going, there...

But, as a comic professional, I waited for the punchline.

I vacationed in northern Minnesota once, you need to add carnivorous, hellacious, mosquitos to your list somewhere.

People that feed bears, kill the bears. Yeah, they are cute when they are adolescents separated from the mother after 2 years. If you feed them, they lose their fear of people and by definition are aggressive. Just the crap we have to put up with in rural western PA. People just don't listen and of course the game commission thinks it is really cool to tag and release near suburban areas.

I wonder if the bear had a tag?

Lady Bender saw one this afternoon trying to steal our bird feeders while I was at the supermarket.

They love feeders. We had two 40lb oil seed feeders (with ginger bread hangers I BUILT!) on our barn for a large population of Pileated Woodpeckers. Six breading pairs! The chicks are something special to watch and the adults tend to be gregarious.

A tagged and reintroduced adolescent found the barn. That thing climbed up on top and crushed both mounts to get to the feeders. That just took the wind out of my sails six years ago. I finally hung new feeders this week. The PA Game Commission sleazed out on paying for damages. They ignored the stark red delicious fruit trees the bear took out and told me I could build new mounts for the barn.

I like the AirHorn idea and will give it a try. OH! They love humming bird feeders.

LOL...it shows just how far separated we are from that bunch. They REALLY think that way, at least when they’re with “safe” company.

Cal F&G has issued me 3 different depredation permits for the federal trapper to set a “culvert” style trap but no luck yet. I had a fence company make me a heavy gauge Cyclone Fence 6 X 10 “Dog Kennel” with a reinforced wire top and we hang about 8 feeders inside it. The bear has been on it but has not gotten in it… Yet.

This happens up here in NH on road kill deer. I saw a guy in a fight with a local cop over a dead buck that he hit.

It is my impression that if a deer commits suicide by car, in this case a truck with brush guard, you get to eat it. He was lucky my, daughter hit one of the miniature Southern deer when she was in college in Alabama. $3600 in damage she don't like eating Bambi.

Years ago, while driving to northern Minnesota for the deer opener, I came upon an adult doe that had been clipped by a car, but it was still alive on the shoulder.

This is out in the middle of nowhere on a two lane road with minimal shoulders. If she keeps struggling like this, she’s going to walk into another oncoming car or truck.

I dial 911. I explain the situation and provide my location. The 911 dispatcher asks me, and I’m serious, “Sir, do you have the means with which to safely dispatch the animal?” I reply, “If you’re asking me if I’m packin’ heat, then yes.” “Yes sir, that’s what I’m asking.” was her reply.

She gave me her blessing and told me to please stay on the line. I uncased my .357 that was under my seat in the truck and ended the situation.

I get back on the phone with the 911 lady and she asks me to stay there until a Sheriff’s deputy arrived. He was about 2 miles south of my position.

He pulls up, gets out and thanks me for my quick and safe work. I ask if I can have the deer. He said no. Got a tarp out of his trunk, wrapped the deer up and asked me to help him stuff it into the trunk. He had to put a lot of goodies in the back seat of his cruiser to fit the deer in.

I asked why I couldn’t have it and he explained that there was a waiting list for road kill. Locals, down on their luck, in need of food.

I thought that was pretty cool.
