Verizon DSL Price Hike [versus Comcast]

Like the poster at the link, I am currently a Verizon Phone/DSL customer in Massachusetts and just received an email from Verizon stating that they will be raising my bill by $3/month, which already costs 76.00 with taxes, as we currently pay $59.99 for Verizon Freedom Essentials (unlimited nationwide + Canada and PR calling) and "High Speed Internet Enhanced" (approx. 6.50 Mbps speed at my location). No TV is included or needed.

However, after i moved less than a 1/2 mile from where I was my Internet speed was approx. cut in half, from around 12 mbps to approx. 6,50. Tech support said the lines were older on my street, yet they charge the same price for speeds from 1.1mbps to 15. http://www.verizon.com/home/highspeedinternet/high-speed-internet-plans/

Comcast via phone rep. for Performance Internet & XFINITY Voice Unlimited® (unlimited nationwide + Canada and PR) offers up to 25 mbps Internet with unlimited nationwide (+ Canada and PR) for 60.00 plus taxes for 12 months with no contract, and the ability to enlist in another special offer after that. So they said.

However, I do not trust Comcast much, and while their online price for Performance Internet & XFINITY Voice Unlimited is $49. 99/mo for the first 12 months ( with 1-year agreement), yet it increases to $74.99 for months 13-24. After that, Performance Internet ranges from $42.95 to $66.95, and $39.95 to $44.95 for XFINITY Voice Unlimited, making it 83.00 for even the lowest rates, and which could increase. http://www.comcast.com/cable-internet-packages.html#

With Verizon at least the price increases are much smaller.

Does anyone know of other options.

Competition is minimal here in MA, with only Comcast be much of an alternative
