That Was Close! Jet Plane Flies Dangerously Close to Spectators’ Heads at Air Show
Metro ^ | Sunday 6 Jul 2014

Spectators at a recent air show in Waddington, near Lincoln, were given a particularly close look at a fighter jet.

Like a scene out of Top Gun, the plane screams over the heads of the crowd, only missing them by a few feet.

People duck and jump for cover, with one observant man commenting: ‘That was a bit close, wasn’t it?’

The Turkish F16 jet can then be seen coming in to land, where the pilot presumably removes his cool-guy shades and gives the thumbs-up to an injured comrade.

Tom Cruise would be proud.

That’s what happens when you stand at the end of a runway.

I knew of some Air National Guard pilots that would try to flip picnic tables.

That little multiple-wobble when he is a couple of hundred yards out is really scary.

“Like a scene out of Top Gun,...”

Maverick: Tower, this is Ghost Rider requesting a flyby.
Air Boss Johnson: Negative, Ghost Rider, the pattern is full.

You can see the LSO (orange shirt) trying to wave this guy off! LOL!

Due to graphic nature of the video you might not want to watch it.

Almost as much fun as fence-surfing at ST. Maarten, which I've done twice. An experience you will NEVER forget!

Dangerous? It’s a jet fighter not a kite.

But if you're gonna do it low and slow..no better place than over 50,000+ at a football game..

2009 Georgia Tech/Wake Forest, Atlanta Two Navy pilots..both GaTech grads...cut it a leeetle too close...and two careers were over in 10 seconds..

I had a buddy who was a Khe Sanh. He said they were getting CAS from a Phantom which finally ran out of gun ammo and bombs. The NVA were up near the top of 881N, so the Phantom comes in low, pulls up at the last second and hit full afterburner as he passed over the NVA, trying to make ‘crispy-critters’.

Another buddy saw a VC patrol diddy-boppin down a paddy dike. Phantom returning from up north made one pass and ran out of 20mm during the run. The VC figured out what had happened, got up and continued to saunter down the dike. This series of paddies was at least a klick wide.

The frustrated Phantom driver circled for a bit then came roaring down the paddy at about 6 foot altitude, trying to run them down. He didn’t succeed, but probably managed to change the color of their black pajama bottoms.

They really saved a lot of GI’s...we were surrounded a lot there.

While a very young girl we lived very near the Van Nuys CA airport in the early 50’s. Actually somewhat at the end of the runway. As the saber jets were taking off we could see and wave to the pilots...and they would wave back to us neighborhood kids. Very cool.

Those weren’t spectators at an air show... They were just some folks camped out on a road close to the approach of a runway. Looked like a fairly normal landing for the F-16. Looks like they were there specifically because it was fun to have the planes drop in right overhead.
