Britney Spears has been defended by star producer William Orbit after a leaked sound clip from new track Alien left her sounding like a strangled cat.
Orbit, who produced Brits track Alien, defended her auto-tune free warbling and insisted the pop princess had simply been warming up.
Id like to affirm that ANY singer when first at the mic at the start of a long session can make a multitude of vocalisations in order to get warmed up, he wrote on Facebook.
The 57-year-old said it was generous of the 32-year-old mum-of-two to put something down for producers and said she was probably just having a cup of tea at the time.
Prepare to hear Britney singing without auto-tune...
Whomever put this on the internet must have done so in a spirit of unkindness, he blasted. but it can in no way detract from the fact that Britney is and always will be beyond stellar! She is magnificent! And thats that.
and people are surprised? Seriously?
Can AutoTune fix Hillary’s cackle?
Singers will lay down an initial track to start recording. It is replaced with the final track after the background is done.
I have worked with a lot of excellent singers and they sing differently when it is not a final. Some of the tracks have been very rough.
“bad” audio has been taken down already.
“I haven’t heard anything like that since the orphanage burned down” Mark Twain
How many of the big stars can be heard (without cringing) without auto-tune?
Anything in the Top 10 today would sound just as bad without autotune. The people who like this stuff don’t care, they just want to be entertained.
No, but it can reformat the cackle in 7.1 Dolby Surround Sound.
In contrast, Karen Carpenter was known to consistently get it absolutely perfect the first time during recording sessions.
She could really sing as many of those in her time and before. I go to youtube and listen to Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra and many others on variety shows who are talking and joking then start singing then break each other up joking around. You know they are actually singing and not lip syncing.
I drive to work and try listening to local rock n roll station or country and they play too new music that is awful. I heard rap country today from Kenny Chesney! Arghh!

For example: Listen if you can to her “Rainbow Connection”(Kermit’s song from the first Muppet movie), from the double disc Carpenters retrospective. Apparently she sang that song with just a simple instrument accompaniment onto tape on a first read thru. It was being trialed by her but it was never finished for release at the time(198o?) It was 20 plus years after her death and for the Album that her brother added strings and other over dubs
to flesh out the track.
Her reading was so perfect, it must have been a real joy in the ease that they laid down the tracks for the final mix. She even adds real emotion and heart to the song as she sings it and at a couple of points as you are listening closely, you can hear the page turns of the paper music as she is singing it. An uncommon voice and talent....alas we lost her too soon. :(
I’ve read in a few different sources that Patsy Kline walked in and recorded “Crazy” in one take and that’s the one that’s heard on the radio and records. I also read Doris Day could sing like that too.
Many of the singers from the era of radio were quite remarkable. Terrific voices as many of them sang everyday on the air.
Today’s singers are not nearly as good because the simply sing less.
If American Idol had the radio singers on for a season they would simply throw up their hands and say “everybody won.
