NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – A 20-year-old woman has been charged with abandoning a baby on a Manhattan subway platform, police said.

Frankea Dabbs, who is homeless, was arrested Tuesday. She faces charges of abandoning a child and acting in a manner injurious to a child under 17, NYPD said.

Dabbs is accused of wheeling a baby girl, strapped in a stroller, onto the platform of the 59th Street and Columbus Avenue station midday Monday, then leaving the child alone among a sea of jostling commuters.

Investigators said Dabbs then returned to the No. 1 train.

IMHO, if she wanted to abandon a baby.. she should have tried the local fire house, hospital, library etc... I have absolutely NO issue with someone abandoning a child in order to get that child a better life but a subway platform?

Big story here. I guess we should be lucky she didn’t throw the kid onto the tracks. In the film clips, she doesn’t exactly look like a warm and fuzzy mommy desperate for a better life for her kid...

Good thing she didn’t own a car.

Kind of like ICE dropping off kids at bus stations and leaving them

She has 11 different stories already: that she's homeless, that she just moved to NY from NC, that the baby's biological father was murdered, etc.

These types always have elaborate tales to tell.

“...but a subway platform?”

Eh, there are worse places. That’s a crazy busy station, I don’t think it was such a bad place. You see from the story someone stepped up right away to look out for the baby.

In a way it’s a great NYC story.

People in this country seems confused by New Yorkers sometimes, but here is the thing: in NYC we know that total strangers are our neighbors and we DO look out for one another as best we can.

Sometimes, no, it doesn’t work, but very often it does. This story is one example.

If the woman cannot care for her child (and she is most likely mentally ill) someone will be happy to care for that baby. More than happy, they’ll be over the moon about it. Let’s hope they can be found if the mom’s not up to the job.

Mea Culpa on the platform... I didn’t watch the video but was concerned about how the danger of the platform was presented. When different states came up with the baby sanctuary laws... I was thrilled. I have no idea of the stats but the laws have got to have saved a lot of babies from dumpsters. Praying this little one gets a wonderful, loving home!
