Demographics here could be a key variable between the two cities.

According to Rahm and Jesse Jackson, if we just fork over 2 Billion dollars, Chicago will be just fine! They promise!

Also Chicago prohibits good people from owning guns. Consequently, those of the obama/holder persuasion (IOW criminal thugs) are well armed, preying on the gunless innocents.

Well, two huge advantages that Toronto over Chicago; 1) Canada doesn't have any history of slavery and 2) Canada doesn't share a 1,000 mile long land border with a Third World narco-state.

From what I understand - and I understand very little these days - Toronto's largest minority is of the Indian subcontinent variety. Chicago's is of the...well, we've all seen the pictures. And it's not the Polish.

Pretty soon they will.

A third noteworthy advantage that Toronto has over Chicago...Canada's “Ministry of Defense”,despite claims to the contrary, isn't located in Ottawa but in Arlington,Virginia. It was clearly spelled out decades ago that the United States of America, and her taxpayers, would take all-but-full responsibility for the defense of North America.Or at least that part that's north of the Rio Grande River.

Canada doesn't have any history of slavery
Actually, we do. Upper Canada (now Ontario) was the first British colony to abolish it but it continued in Nova Scotia until the Crown banned the trade in the 1830s. It wasn't a divisive issue, though, because our climate meant that slave-owners had to feed their "property" year-round but could only get work from them for eight months. The life of an unskilled labourer here was summer on a farm, winter at a logging camp.

Canada doesn't share a 1,000 mile long land border with a Third World narco-state.
Not yet, anyway. (Sorry, that line was a gift)

Indian, Caribbean and Eastern European. We have some crime and gang issues with certain ethnic groups but nothing on the scale of US cities. Also, even the poorest here get out of their neighbourhoods on a daily basis.

Yep, one of our blessings is the fact that it’s in America’s interest to keep a mostly harmless power next door.

Your 10 second apart posts are a very sobering double-tap of the unfortunate facts.

The USA is a different country than it was only a decade ago. The inland part of Washington state now has the demographic profile of south Texas.

That's a rather jaded view of the situation. For one thing it fails to address why we,at about the same time, decided to act as the "Ministry of Defense" for Western and Central Europe,Japan,South Korea and Australia, among other nations/regions.

“Canada doesn't have any history of slavery”

Yes it does. Canada had legal slavery for many years. It was abolished in the 1830’s I believe.

The native Americans in Canada and the U.S. also owned slaves.

In fact, every country in world had some form of slavery. The slaves brought to the U.S. were slaves in Africa that were sold to profit their African owners.
